He doesn't just say believe who he is. He is leading them to understand he is the Messiah. There is no contradiction. A contradiction would be if he is telling them to repent which they can't do.
He did, though. He said that they didn’t believe because they were not His sheep. Being His sheep is a requirement for hearing Him.

Not just Jews also Gentiles.

It doesn't say why some are not granted repentance. They may be resisting the Holy Spirit.
It does, though, say that it’s Him that grants repentance. “Why” isn’t really relevant.

Well in keeping with the same parable, many were called (invited to the wedding) but those who were chosen had to meet 2 conditions.
1. They had to accept the invitation.
2. They had to show up with the right garment.
It actually doesn’t say either thing.

Why do you think he told them that they were not his sheep?

Didn't those who ultimately enjoy the wedding feast meet those 2 conditions? You do not believe those were chosen?
I said that the text didn’t say they. It does, however, say why they were there.

Because they were to know that their standing with God was all but perfect, so they would get a sting in the heart and repent.
Really? How did you get the complete opposite meaning of Jesus said from that verse?

By reading the whole passage and not just one verse.
But there’s nothing that even implies that. He’s clear that His sheep hear His voice. How can one hear His voice unless they are already His sheep?

I believe God also leads us to repentance.

God chooses out from all the souls that He draws. They must pass His test to be chosen and given to the Son.

No one can come to me unless the Father who
sent me
draws them, and I will raise them up at
the last day."
Jn 6:44

God works invisibly in His drawing of men. He works on a subconscious level as to not hinder a person's freedom to feel free to reject an idea or thought that enters his mind. Or, to accept.

It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God.’
Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from
him
comes to me." Jn 6:45

Not many can explain what I just said... Many are subjective guessers who assume everyone must be guessing like they are. Its God who makes what is needed to be known. Known to those whom He chooses to make known!

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son
of the living God.”

Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah,
for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood,
but by my Father in heaven."
Mat 16:16-17

Many guess what certain Bible passages mean. We see this everywhere that a Bible forum exits. Few are chosen by God to know in that case. God chooses in many ways as to what is to be made known, and to whom it will be known.

God is not in the numbers game like man is. Only a few are needed to satisfy. Noah and his family equaled only eight souls out of many.

His sheep are the ones who accepted God's drawing. They are ready for finalizing their salvation.

Those whom God has drawn to Himself to His satisfaction are already seen by God as being saved. He chooses these ones to give as a gift to His Son!

Since God the Father is invisible and can not be seen by any man, He will hand these chosen drawn souls over to His Son in whom they can finally see the One who was drawing them! To see Jesus is to see the One who drew them to Himself!

No, that’s not how it works. God doesn’t reward us for being good.
