CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The reality of it all is the exact opposite of the conspiracy narrative. Whereas in that narrative the government is using the pretext of a fake virus to do a massive authoritarian power grab, in the real world a very real virus is making rounds and the government is taking a laissez-faire attitude.
Covid infections are soaring. This is evident from waste water analysis. Virus particle detection is even higher now than during the absolute heights of the pandemic. I don't have stats for my country but this is a Dutch graph and I have no reason to thinks it's any different here. From what I understand things are similarly bad in the USA.

And what is the government's reaction to the increasing stress on the health care system? Nothing! Absolutely nothing! They'd rather sweep it under the rug and pretend nothing is happening. Because nobody wants to go back to 2020/2021. People are way beyond caring. Most people have been vaccinated even though the vast majority did not get this year's boosters. And politicians don't want to damage themselves politically by acknowledging things are bad. So the end result is complete apathy.
Honestly, your fictional scenario might be preferable because at least then it would show the government actually cared enough about the well being of the populace instead of just the economy.

I checked the hospitalization numbers and they are a lot lower than I was expecting. I was just going off how many sick people I noticed around me but it seems even though infections are near record highs, hospitalizations are still fairly low. So unless that drastically changes I think the most the government is going to do is advise people to wear masks when entering hospitals. And not even that probably.
