What could possibly go wrong?

You're right, and Congressman McCaul agrees with you. So he ordered another Inspector General investigation, from the Homeland Security Dept. So now this is perfect, because you have a cross-check of both agencies that were in charge of the ATF situation. Janet Napolitano could've been involved, for that matter, if you're not going to believe AG Holder. This way, EVERYONE is being checked out, just in case.

The Homeland Security Inspector General's report should be available by about October, but the Justice Dept one could be ready any time now. I would imagine that it wouldn't be considered conclusive until both of the reports are in.

Just bringing us back to the topic. :)

Here's what the Justice Dept has to say:

Justice Department aims to avoid contempt vote on Holder over Fast and Furious - The Washington Post

Quoting from the link:

Justice officials say that they cannot give Issa material on the ongoing criminal investigation or the court-sealed wiretap applications. They also said that Holder ordered the inspector general to investigate Fast and Furious when he learned of it.
“The Committee has ignored the fundamental — and undeniable — facts that this attorney general put a stop to the misguided tactics, called for an investigation of this flawed operation and instituted reforms to prevent this from happening again,” Justice spokeswoman Tracy Schmaler said.

Each underlined item is a separate link.

Hooray! Quoting information from the agency whose head is being brought up on contempt charges! Yes, that's indeed an unbiased source. ;)

I KNEW it!!!! Holder offered to personally debrief members of Congress in private on what he is working on, and what is going on:

Left’s Response Far From ‘Fast and Furious’ : Roll Call News

Deputy Attorney General James Cole responded in a letter to Issa that he was “surprised” because “over the past few weeks our staffs have met twice and had other communications” to resolve the issue.
Cole said Republicans had not responded to an offer he has made to meet with GOP leadership personally to discuss the issue. “You have not responded to those offers. I continue to believe that such a meeting could be productive,” Cole wrote.
During the George W. Bush administration, threats of contempt prompted deal-making on document production several times.

They need to take the deal. No WAY is Holder going to part with those documents, if they involve ongoing investigations. Why wouldn't Issa settle for a private debriefing? Now I'm disgusted, because this is no longer reasonable.

I had at least assumed that Holder was stonewalling because he couldn't release the information. Now I come to find out that he hasn't been stonewalling - Issa just never responded to Holder's counteroffer to provide a private debriefing. Yet Issa accuses Holder of stonewalling?! I...don't...like...that. That's misleading, if not an outright lie.

Furthermore the most recent hearing involved Congressmen yelling at Holder over the voter ID issue, so I am not all that impressed with their supposed impartiality, frankly.

I never said anything about Agent Terry. I was talking about Issa and his allies in Congress.
Terry's family would like some answers, and they don't share yor sentiment about Issa

It wasn't a game to Brian Terry

That's why Issa should at least take Holder up on his offer to debrief them privately. You WOULD think that he'd want to get to the bottom of this, any way he could. But I'm really beginning to think that all Issa wants is a contempt citation, and that he is willing to say anything to discredit Holder, including lying about the extent of his cooperation. That does nothing to honor Brian Terry's memory.

Much like you are willing to say anything to keep from being discredited?

You do realize that the past publication you quoted from is a subsidiary of the Economists Group, which is owned by some of the most powerful, and politically active, families in the world, right?

Uh no, I don't have any particular agenda. I want the truth, and none of this Issa "stuff" smells right to me. It's contrary to everything I've learned about how things usually work. I don't believe Issa's version of these events, and the Roll Call link gave us some good information on this.

I'm glad SOMEONE told us about that...

It seems Eric Holder is with you on that.

Don't be silly. Agent Terry died on Holder's watch. It's Holder's responsibility to clean this up, and prevent it from ever happening again. It isn't possible that anyone would care more about this than Holder, unless you are speaking of Agent Terry's immediate family and friends. I'm sure Holder would give anything if this whole situation had not happened, and it isn't even over because there are active gun smuggling rings now. It's a nightmare. Of course he cares.

On the other hand, Issa could be just a little more curious to hear a personal debriefing that would arguably help him to get to the bottom of this. The Inspector General reports are pending, anyway.

No, he isn't, because I highly doubt he wants to be brought up on contempt charges.
If he didn't want to be brought up on contempt charges, he would comply with the subpoena

You should tell that to Terry's father. I think he would disagree
