Meh. Issa and the GOP need to stop playing around and just do it. I understand why they are doing it. They are trying to look like righteous law abiders for November. It's just not going to work.

Put him on trial, or don't. Just stop playing games.

Exactly, Curly Fries. They are trying to discredit the U S Attorney General. Those Mexican drug cartels, and all of the other organized crime syndicates, are eating their popcorn and enjoying the show. It's a very dangerous thing to be doing, and I wish they'd just wait for the Inspector General report. We need to have our Attorney General - he does things no one else can do.

Or maybe, you know, some of us are actually upset with the whole scheme and want those involved, at the very least, no longer in position to do these sort of things.

As do I. :D

For those of you who don't know, this is what can happen if the identities of Federal witnesses are made public:

Snitching Blog : Federal witness killed after lawyer allegedly leaks his name

http://le.alcoda.org/publications/files/INFORMANTS.pdf

Issa is asking for information that no one should have, at least until the Inspector General's report comes in. Furthermore, I am sure that many Congressmen are aware of why no one should have it, and will vote accordingly.

Uh- Assured? That's why you do this thing called "redaction." You know... It's where you black out the names of those witnesses?

True that.

The point is, the ONLY responsible thing to do, is to present a UNITED FRONT against people who are obviously criminals, and stand with someone who up until now, certainly HASN'T been. You just verify that the boss' hands are clean (Inspectors General investigations), but his position requires a certain benefit of a doubt because while you just check into it, you need him to continue to work! And as I said, anyone who has worked for an organization of any size, knows that this kind of thing typically starts lower down on the food chain, with people who are bribable and not as smart as they think they are (people who think they are smarter than the boss, so they go ahead and do what they want). Holder has spent his whole career dedicating himself to the cause of criminal justice, and someone has sabotaged him. He doesn't like that, and he deserves to be given the chance to nail these people to the wall. He will do exactly that, too. I don't think a substitute AG will be quite as motivated as Holder, and it isn't retaliation but justice.

...why do I get the feeling that, had this been the American Revolution, you'd be defending Benedict Arnold because "up until now, he certainly hasn't betrayed us?" I mean, even if this guy's hands has been spotless until now, he's obviously lied and helped cover up a serious issue/crime. Guess what? That makes him a criminal, too. No matter how good he was prior to this, that alone makes him a bad guy in this situation.

You guys are going to pretty much guarantee that only AG Holder is going to face the music, because if he goes down, you prevent anyone else from being caught. Are you SURE that's what you want? Whoever did this had plenty of help from the inside, and Congress knows this, even if you pretend not to. Issa thinks he would make a better AG than Holder would. That's INSANE. Issa has enough to do as a member of Congress, and he needs to stop thinking he can look over AG Holder's shoulder and do his job for him. No one has ever even appointed Issa as a Federal judge, let alone US Attorney General. McCaul's response to this was to order that Inspector General report, because you don't just take "whistleblower's" word for it when they want to blame him for something, when they never reported to or even spoke to him in their lives. You don't do anything until you have evidence. That's how just about everything has worked, everywhere, and how it is supposed to work.

I'm referring to the GOP in Congress, not your average GOP citizen.

Err...that's right. His bureaucracy just allowed people to get guns that they then used in the MURDER of a federal agent. The IG works for the DOJ and Holder is in charge of the DOJ.

What could possibly go wrong?

Oh, and just for the sake of pointing it out- It is now a full 75% of the voters on this poll FOR the contempt charge against Holder.

Hey- It's not just your poll, either. According to the polls I've been reading, Holder's position of gun control is opposed by an average of 20% every time the question is asked. He used this time before the Oversight Committee to blame them for the deaths of the border guards saying "you failed to pass that measure" that prevented receipt of a gun sale for one year, and investigation of potential buyers and their families, friends, and other consorts.

While there has not yet been an official poll that I can find on this specific issue, (read: no poll that has not shown up on FOX, CBS, etc.), I did find one done by Anderson Robbins and Shaw &Company. In that poll, in answer to question number 34, which asked what should be done concerning Eric Holder in regards to Operation Fast and Furious, 34% believe he ought to be fired, and 32% believe he ought to be reprimanded. Only 12% believe nothing should happen in regards to him- 12%.

I'm going to guess you're with that 12%, Assured.

The voters on this poll don't like Obama, and they don't like what Holder is doing to enforce the 1965 Voting Rights Act (which was enacted when he was in High School, BTW). They aren't experts in Criminal Justice or Federal law. By way of contrast, most of the members of Congress are members of their state bars, and if not are still extremely well-versed in legal matters, and are very concerned about our ability to protect ourselves from organized crime syndicates. They are bound to have concerns that are of a much higher order than that of simply having a Republican President in November. This is a serious, serious problem, because Holder is currently working on things that are a problem for just about everybody.

I'm still learning my way around the ForumRunner app, but I don't see a poll. However, I'm in favor of contempt charges and firing.

You're right, and Congressman McCaul agrees with you. So he ordered another Inspector General investigation, from the Homeland Security Dept. So now this is perfect, because you have a cross-check of both agencies that were in charge of the ATF situation. Janet Napolitano could've been involved, for that matter, if you're not going to believe AG Holder. This way, EVERYONE is being checked out, just in case.

The Homeland Security Inspector General's report should be available by about October, but the Justice Dept one could be ready any time now. I would imagine that it wouldn't be considered conclusive until both of the reports are in.

My browser crashed and I didn't think a post actually made it. Turns out it did, so I didn't need to rewrite the whole thing after all. Heh.

Hey, Fries. I don't have the ForumRunner app, because I don't have an oxymoron phone.

That said, if you're able to jump onto a computer at all, it'll be right at the very top of the thread.
