  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No, a true theory would be "Silk burns in a propane torch flame because..."

You actually just admitted you missed it and it was a true theory. See the "because" you are asking for in the following part of the post in question, the same "because" you claim makes it a true theory. I'm telling you, it's all there and always was but you chose/still choose not to see it. Can't wait till dogma gets a hold of it. :)

, but I had a theory it would because I have seen cotton burn, a similar material, and both used for clothing..

I see you aren't paying attention either, but I love these comments, just as much as I do seeing exactly what I expected to see. :)

My actual theory was a true theory, yet you all insist on seeing that theory as something other than what i clearly explained....hilarious.

You didn't even present a theory at all. You presented an hypothesis.

Actually, that is not correct either, it should read:

No, a true theory would be "I surmise/think" or "theorize" or "have good reason to believe at this point", Silk would burn in a propane torch flame because...

According to the following, if I presented one, I presented the other. So you are right in that it's a hypothesis, but wrong in hiding the fact that is the same as a theory, or maybe it was just out of ignorance? Oh, and if anyone else needs help with nomenclature here, just ask...happy to oblige.

Throw in some common sense and prayer for divine guidance... and you got it!

Since I've joined this site the phrase "common sense" lost all meaning to me.

I've talked to people who think its common sense that the earth is flat, that vaccines cause autism, that the Illuminati control all governments, that the earth is 4000-6000 years old and so on.

Common sense doesn't seem to be very reliable if you ask me.

*sigh* and I'm sure you have been told many times that the way science uses the term "theory" is not the same colloquial usage that you are doing here. A theory is an EXPLANATION for a set of related hypotheses and observations. Again, it is an explanation, not a proposition.

You wonder why we "aren't getting" your point. It's because you are demonstrating a fundamental misunderstanding about what a scientific theory is. We know what you are trying to argue, but you are basically arguing against a strawman version of when we say theories are not proven. YOUR definition of theory is not the same as what we are using. So who cares if your colloquial theory is proven correct? It has absolutely nothing to do with whether scientific theories can be proven or not. Utterly irrelevant.

First you need to tell me what you now think my theory was exactly? We can move on from there.

I've got no idea. You haven't even begun to suggest or imply one. Is it god's holy energy springing forth from the quantum particles within the silk?

Many creationists have the paranoid notion that they are under some kind of attack and regard explanations of specialized scientific vocabulary and word usage as an attempt to bamboozle them.

The ones I don't agree with. Because I don't agree with them. That's the way I do science.
Thanks for your confession. Its nice to see someone so straightforward and honest about how they form their opinions.

Regarding the physical mechanism, the fixation of mutations and alteration of DNA over successive generations, this is all evolution is. It is of course observed fact. So the question then simply becomes, how long has this process been going on? And what evidence is there for this processes occurance over longer periods of time?

We've got radioactive decay dating for ancient life going back millions of years.

On CF there is a constant bombardment of godless posters (people speaking who know not God is, and active in present world) who have set the Bible aside likewise - but want to educate us of reality, even of this world.

If they are not Spirit led and God centered in action and thought than they can keep the great understanding and knowledge they promote us to hear and heed.

Many on CF set aside Divine Guidance.

Many on CF think prayer is a useless act.

And they want to lead in how things are? Yes, they think they have arrived, increased in goods, and have need for nothing, but do not know that they are .......... Rev 3
