Hello all! This thread is for debate and discussion regarding evolution, creation and Orthodoxy, the twist being that no debate is to be had at all regarding scientific data. Instead, all discussion must focus solely on evolution in the context of Orthodox theology and philosophy, to see if it is incompatible and thus heretical or if it can be understood in an acceptable way.

Acceptable debate topics are as follows. Does evolution violate the Orthodox doctrines and teachings:
  • Cosmology
  • Anthropology
  • Christology
  • Soteriology
  • Hamartiology
  • Divine revelation
Acceptable sources to use in argument would be such things as:
  • Scripture (including deuterocanon)
  • Liturgy
  • Iconography
  • Councils and canons
  • Words and writings of Saints
  • etc.
If it is relevant to Orthodox theology and philosophy then it is allowed, just remember NO SCIENCE. I believe, and this thread operates under the rule that, if it disagrees with divine revelation and the theology/philosophy of the Church then it is wrong.

Can we at least use scientific concepts and defend them with theology/ sources above?
