CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Religion has impeded scientific investigation of the world for a long time. The Catholic persecution of Galileo, for example. The simple fact that religion encourages us to invoke a god to explain mysteries of the universe encourages ignorance of what is really happening.

The bold is a sincere misunderstanding of two scientific concepts.
The second law of thermodynamics says in "closed systems" entropy is increasing.
The earth is not a closed system, it is actually being fed a constant amount of energy via massive fusion explosions on the sun (the sun is constantly increasing in entropy).
This means that the local amount of order is quite capable of increasing while the systemic order in the universe is definitely decreasing.
So, the amount of order and organization on earth is entirely capable of being increased. What you will find with life is that through photosynthesis anabolic reactions are taking place that feed almost all life on earth.
Evolution is the second concept misunderstood here.
Evolution doesn't say it makes things better, as it is impossible to assign value judgments to non thinking processes, it says they change over time with respect to the environmental pressures they are under.
Evolution is entirely capable of making more complex creatures however, without going against the second law of thermodynamics, because local increases in order do not go against the second law.
If local increases in order were not possible then pretty much everything you do in your day that increased any order would be impossible. Things as simple as walking up stairs.
Any system that is fed energy from an outside source is free to increase in order. If I had proper meal today, I should be quite capable of using that energy to climb stairs.

However, when talking about the evolution of life on Earth, it is irrelevant. The question should be, "Is the earth a closed system?" And the answer is no. We have a steady input of energy from the sun.

Is the total entropy of the universe increasing when we include the evolution of life on Earth? The answer is undoubtedly yes. The small amount of negative entropy occuring on Earth is dwarfed by the increase of entropy elsewhere in the universe, and even in our solar system.
In any closed system, you can have some reactions that have negative entropy as long as entropy increases in the system as a whole.
