  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Some people do not understand what comparing means. Farther, some think that you can only compare apples with apples and oranges with oranges. Some people believe that you cannot or should not compare apples with oranges or cars with people. However, that would defeat the purpose of what comparison is all about. Comparison is about sticking two things together that were not already together in the first place. Two apples are a lot closer to each other than an apple and an orange.

And some people do. These people realize that sometimes, comparisons are invalid. For example, these people realize that comparing the process of disease with damage to a car is invalid, because the processes are too different.

You are only thinking of a limited version of comparison. Too often, that is what we do as humans. We think that we are only allowed to compare certain things with certain things. We are so hung up on this kind of legalism that is limiting us from thinking outside the box. We are so scared of being so creative that we actually come up with imagination that can open us to new planes of understanding how the world works. We are so single dimensional when we reduce the flow of how comparison works.

right, but how many comparisons can you really make between a car and a human, without turning the car and it's parts and processes into mere analogies of the human body?

That is all up to the people who are making the comparison. Comparisons can be literal. Comparisons can even be figurative. When I was making a comparison between cars & humans, I was being figurative & general. I was more focused on playing with words, with ideas, with eternal principles that goes beyond literal details, then to literally say that they were exactly the same in every single microscopic detail.
