CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Rocks are only said to be old because scientist say they are. God never put signs on things saying "this rock is 50 million years old" and then smirked because it really wasn't. I dont serve a God like that.I fact check what I read
Also, it isn't just looking at the formations (although this does reveal a lot), but even if that were just the case, they shouldn't look old if they aren't. After all, if god is omnipotent and omniscient, this means not one detail was made without it knowing about it and the consequences, and making a decision. Why make the decision which will result in the bible apparently conflicting with observations?

Rocks are said to be old because of the EVIDENCE that they provide of their age...it doesn't matter what scientists, priests, electricians, teachers, or even Tasmanians "say" about the age of the earth...the ONLY thing that matters is what the evidence says...

No, but we can actually measure how long it takes for rocks to form an, guess what, fast forming rocks have different crystalline structure patterns than those which form slowly. Also, hey, it's god, why not make it blatantly obvious the earth was young if it was? It isn't as if it would be much of an effort on god's part. However, you have not personally met god in any direct way, and any traits god has in the bible are just taking god's word for it (assuming god had anything to do with that book to begin with), assuming that god is going to be 100% honest when describing itself.

No, no...he's fine on this one....because what the dolt doesn't realise is that his pet barbs actually serve to support the scientific method...
Yes, we have had more than one estimate of the age of the earth and every single one of them had support from the evidence that was available at the time...! But, the beauty of science and the method it lends us is that we are constantly challenged to gather more evidence, to continue to test our current understanding and to continually work towards a better understanding for the future...it urges us to say 'yes, I have an idea about how this works, but I think I can do better...!'
Compare this with his miserable view....he is stuck in time. Nothing moves forward....no new knowledge is countenanced. He has to hold his hands over his ears, screw his eyes up tight and hope that his 'wall of ignorance' that he prayed for from his god will hold....
