Not exactly, atheists just don't believe gods exist. That's it, we can and do believe in other stuff, depending on what atheist you are talking to.

My life isn't screwed up because I don't believe in the Christian god. Why would that happen? It isn't as if I can't value my life or other things without that kind of belief.

Agreed...I have been an atheist ever since my birth 60 years ago...and I have a great life...! I'm healthy, I share my life with a wonderful woman, I have 3 beautiful children, cute grandchildren, I lead a stimulating work life, pay all my debts, and have many close friends...

What eternity? Yes, it is depressing to think that when I die, my existence ends, all that I am just gone. But anyone will ruin their life constantly dreading death, no matter what their beliefs.

This statement of yours reveals one of the underlying reasons for belief in gods....the fear that your life will one day end and that you will cease to exist....

Not sure if you are aware of this, but there is actually a segment of Christianity that believes in that concerning the fate of non-Christians.
