If I say the river in the garden of Eden was a psychological allusion to an ever changing world I would be using dumb words to wave away the reality that there was a river in Eden. If you try to wave Genesis away using the term allegory, the same thing applies.

No, it was language that would have been understood by the people of the day. They weren’t “dumb peasants”, but their understanding was limited. For example, they thought that bats were birds. Do you think bats are birds? After all, the Bible says that they are.

The original Hebrew says Eve was made from half of Adam.
