Lived in Germany in the mid-50s, as a British services kid.

Sister lived and worked in München in the '70s. Visited her and had a good time. Been back a couple of times.

Germany has done good. Wasn't such fun in the 30s/40s, though.

ETA: It's a pity that English has lost the distinction between "you" (ambiguously singular or plural) and "thou", unambiguously singular. French is going the same way. "Nous" (we) is getting rarer, being replaced with "on" (one), which is way too vague for conveying certain meanings, leading to ambiguity and potential failures of communication.

It's just the only clan mentality. "Us" and "them". "Us" is everyone that I count as in my group. "Them" is all the rest, the baddies, the outsiders.

"I" can claim part in everything "we" do, even if I personally haven't done anything. Anything I don't like to claim as my own, I can evade by blaming it onto "them", or simply limiting the group.

In this case here... we put a man on the moon. You didn't.

Actually, after we nabbed him before the Russians could get their hands on him, von Braun did become an American citizen .... although I would describe him as one of those "satanic" scientists first and foremost.

Usually I'm asked to back my beliefs up with Scripture so they can do one of two things: accuse me of being brainwashed, or "trample the pearls."

But being accused of "confirmation bias" after I back something I believe up with Scripture is somewhat new to me.

It's probably nothing more than a cheap attempt to dissuade me from using the Sword in future discussions.

But did you, me or any of us here win or even help to win WW2? No.

My dad was on a troop ship headed to the Phillipines when Japan surrendered. So my dad liked to point out that clearly the Japanese were TERRIFIED that he was coming so they decided to cut their losses and give up before he got there.
