Let's go for a twofer.....
....and Judeo-Christian male mutilation...!
Male Genital Mutilation, or circumcision, is not an exclusively Judeo-Christian custom either.
It is widely practiced within Islam, but has cultural roots going far back - thousands of years before Christ and Abraham. It is found as a cultural practice in many parts of the world, including among many African traditions, and even among aboriginal Australians and polynesians. In many of these cases it is not linked to any religious ritual.
An interesting quote from Wikipedia (
Circumcision - Wikipedia): "Circumcision did not become a common medical procedure in the Anglophone world until the late 19th century. At that time, British and American doctors began recommending it primarily as a deterrent to masturbation. Prior to the 20th century, masturbation was believed to be the cause of a wide range of physical and mental illnesses including epilepsy, paralysis, impotence, gonorrhea, tuberculosis, feeblemindedness, and insanity." Perhaps the discussion should delink the subject from religion altogether.
