  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That does not mean I must live in America when talking about multiculturalism.
Maybe your viewpoint is a bit too narrow, though. The usa has a lot of anti-asian racism.

Then again, afaik you austrians don't even like us Piefkes.

But racism was not the question. The question was multiculturalism.

We can be racist without a reason, irrationally. Asians are mostly hard working people with low criminality. So why to be against them?

It may be sometimes related, but not necessarily.
In this case it is. Your claim was that the cultures of "whites" and "asians" are "compatible". It doesn't take much effort to show you where those cultures clash hard.

That doesn't even go into the ridiculous notion that something like "white culture" or "asian culture" would even exist. I should know, I'm from germany, we have about a dozen cultures that hate each others guts.

That is referring to states, not cultures.

"E Pluribus Unum" was the motto proposed for the first Great Seal of the United States by John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson in 1776. A latin phrase meaning "One from many," the phrase offered a strong statement of the American determination to form a single nation from a collection of states.

Over the years, "E Pluribus Unum" has also served as a reminder of America's bold attempt to make one unified nation of people from many different backgrounds and beliefs. The challenge of seeking unity while respecting diversity has played a critical role in shaping our history, our literature, and our national character.

Americans can hate Asians, I do not know. But I think that white and asian cultures/races are compatible, because they are similar in almost any important aspect.

Also, its hard to define an "American". It does not have to be a white person.

I invite you to read this test about asian collectivism, a big part of asian culture, and meditate on its compatibility with your personal value system.

If we would want to study various philosphies, we can certainly find many incompatible ones, even inside one race. Compare for example Christian thinking vs Nihilism or sexual freedom. And its all "white" culture.

But most people live some kind of an average life, without getting too deep into one way, thats why the result is quite compatible.

I mean when American culturalism worked.

I know that Americans invented many things, but that was not my question.
You're participating in American culturalism right here, right now, on an American website, using American technology (the internet), discussing American (specifically) politics which you are familiar with because we export our Hollywood entertainment based news to your country. I can assure you that neither I nor any of my American friends go to a German-speaking website to discuss European politics.

It's amazing to me that you would deny that American culturalism works in any way while you are directly participating in it because it works so well. In fact, it appears to work so very well that it is seamless to you that something so American as this board feels natural and not foreign to you.

And the reason you speak English is not because of the British, it is because of American entertainment (Hollywood, music) which has been pushed even more to the world in the internet age through American media and technology (iPhone, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

I have family from Armenia. All the older folks there still speak Russian, as Russia was the influence on their lives until the 90's. In the 90's, two things came along for them - freedom and internet/technology. Everyone who was a teen at that time and since that time stopped learning Russian and they all learn English now. Why? iPhone. Microsoft. Disney. Facebook. Twitter. YouTube. Not because of anything British.

You don't have to like it, but you can't deny the reality.

Sure. The meaning of words and how they are used in society over time is always evolving.
There's a difference between natural evolution of language and sub-groups of society bending existing phrases to their needs.

Sub-groups?

As an American citizen of 54 years I submit that if you asked Americans what is the meaning of E Pluribus Unum - From Many one, most would say it speaks to a unified nation from peoples of many different backgrounds and beliefs.

yes

our daughter is from another country
we celebrate her heritage by attending Global cultural events in our area & driving hours to attend such events

we have been one of only a handful of white people at some cultural events so that our daughter can be around people from her country

we read books about her country & cook the food
we celebrate festivals from her country
friends from her country send her gifts on those special celebrations

she took classes this summer with other kids adopted from her country

Why would you want to do that?
