  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hard to do over zoom.
Maybe we could supply everyone with a hunter drone. Or, failing that, a cheap toys-r-us rotor drone with a glock strapped to it.

Not a knife, though. That's too UK.

Can different cultures, with so many differences on culture, heritage, lifestyles, Religion and pride in all aspects of these things, ever be truly united without someone giving up who they are or what they are or what they believe?
Of course it works. It works very well. That doesn't mean there aren't and won't be problems, though. It's an imperfect world. Everything in our world that works does so imperfectly. Do cars work? Yes. But that doesn't mean there won't be accidents resulting in injuries and fatalities. Does Capitalism work? Yes, but there are problems with it. Does socialism work? Yes, but there are problems with it.

So if you are seeking multiculturalism that has no flaws or defects as the only way it "works" then it will never "work". But if you have a realistic view on what it means for multiculturalism to "work" then it works incredibly well.

That is referring to states, not cultures.
Yes. Back then blacks were enslaved. Indians were "savages". Japan was closed. Chinese people wouldnt immigrate until the next century. And we had not yet annexed Spanish speaking parts of North America.

Why do you think that asians and whites are compatible?
Both these races/cultures developed similar view of success - work, education, being a useful member of a society, family values, order, clean and quiet streets/homes, both races also developed higher philosophies and asian religions are mostly non-violent.

I personally have never felt endangered or harassed while passing by group of asians. I cannot say that about other races.

Also, when some asians will move to the block of flats or to some street, people do not worry because they know that they are probably not problematic.

No. Not until the eternal kingdom. Taking on the culture and customs of the people around them was always Israels down fall.
Correct. That's why they generally wiped the offending peoples completely off the face of the Earth (including women, children, goats, chickens, etc.) as often as he did, as described in the OT. Back when genocide was a good thing. That way you didn't have to worry about undesirables moving into your suburb.

Interesting to get called non-American. I do admit to having a passport.

It is interesting how the definitions change with time. During the American Revolution the conservatives were the United Empire Loyalists. They remained true to the Crown but of course they lost. They were hated by the radical left, the Revolutionaries, who killed their cattle, burned their crops and barns and harassed them in the streets. They banded together and fought their way north to freedom in what eventually became Canada, the freest nation in the world. The liberals And leftists of the day were the Founding Fathers.

No.

There is no country in the world where multiculturalism was successful. And countries where the multiculturalism is the most spread are internally messed up the most.

Some cultures/races seem to be compatible (for example whites and asians), some seem to be incompatible.

I beg to differ. America has always been comprised of a mix of cultures and beliefs. What holds the country together is our belief in the values and ideals expressed in our constitution.

And yet, the mask slips of all too easily in times of crisis.

Interestingly, bagpipes, which made me think of Scotland and also are old in Ireland, possibly are just an import.

The evidence for bagpipes prior to the 13th century AD is still uncertain but several textual and visual clues have been suggested. The Oxford History of Music says that a sculpture of bagpipes has been found on a Hittite slab at Euyuk in Anatolia, dated to 1000 BC. Several authors identify the ancient Greek askaulos (ἀσκός askos – wine-skin, αὐλός aulos – reed pipe) with the bagpipe.[2] In the 2nd century AD, Suetonius described the Roman emperor Nero as a player of the tibia utricularis.[3] Dio Chrysostom wrote in the 1st century of a contemporary sovereign (possibly Nero) who could play a pipe (tibia, Roman reedpipes similar to Greek and Etruscan instruments) with his mouth as well as by tucking a bladder beneath his armpit.[4]
Bagpipes - Wikipedia

The Irish gave the Scots bagpipes over 400 years ago, and they still have not gotten the joke.

I mean when American culturalism worked.

I know that Americans invented many things, but that was not my question.

I think that I speak English more because of the Brittish Empire who made English the global language, spoken on all continents, so it was an ideal adept for being a global lingua franca. But the spread of internet certainly made it quicker, nothing against that.
