Looks like the US military as well... but I'll bet my blessings it wouldn't look like the US army of 1776... and that's just 200 years ago. What about 2000?

I think it is him because he is conforming to Gods image. His hair is not long. His beard is not to long. And it looks like he is wearing plain clothing and it is white.

I think a fake picture would have him with long hair and a long beard.

Why would a devout Jew have a short beard when the Bible prohibits cutting it?

Finding myself agreeing with tulc. What possible purpose could God have for wanting us to know exactly what Christ looked like. I can see none - in fact it goes against the initial writing of the bible which told us nothing about His appearance other than is was unremarkable.

About a decade ago people started flocking to a village church in Mexico. When the light was right there was a faint image of Jesus on an exterior wall. People were healed. However the parish priest was skeptical and then he remembered that the church had been recently whitewashed. Upon closer investigation he found that the painters did not bother to take down a poster for a Willie Nelson show and just whitewashed over it.

Obviously they weren't given by God, so they aren't photo realistic depictions of Christ.

The sacred art of medieval times usually portrays people in European garb of the medieval period and with the appearance of white Europeans. Well, all except European Jews --- they were almost universally portrayed as ugly to the point of depravity. To me, it is not at all surprising that Jesus is so frequently portrayed as a white European by people who should know better.

I would say no. He doesn't look Middle Eastern enough.

The man in those paintings seems too fair and smooth-skinned. The gospels mention Jesus in Galilee and Jerusalem. I think it's safe to assume that most all of his life was spent in the area around and between those 2 cities. Those are at about the same latitudes as Tuscon and El Paso, TX. Definitely a region of high solar radiation. AFAIK, there was no sun screen back then. Unless he regularly wore some kind of head covering, he would be very sun-tanned, and even in his early 30s, his skin would show signs of UV exposure
