  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Do you remember when a banana split had 3 flavors of ice cream and three different topings?

Sure do. Seems like the last time I had one it had all of the above, but then, it has been a while. ;)

Does anyone remember chocolate ripple ice cream? And corner drug stores where ice cream cones were sold? And places called "ice cream" parlors? And soda jerks? (someone who worked behind the counter in an ice cream parlor).

indeed. That was the place all the teenagers gathered after school and after church on Wed night. I remember testing to see how many teenagers could fit into the corner booth.:D

Yes - One of my best friend's family owned the most popular ice cream parlor in our city. Used to go there a lot. Fountain cherry coke and banana splits mmmmmm...mmmmm... didn't get much better than that. Used to go to my head...now it goes to my waste :D

God Bless You All,

Yes, I remember Thelma Ritter in many "character roles" in movies, and also Chocolate Ripple ice cream. Ice cream cones cost only 5¢ a (huge) scoop when I was a kid!

Anyone remember "moon" & "baby moon" hub caps on cars, and pom poms hanging along the edge of the headliner, with white fur around the car's rear-view mirror? And when we had the coil springs cut down to about 1/3 their normal size so the car would have a "groovy" "rake" to it (rake=the front end of the car was almost touching the ground). That was real "boss" man!!

Our local drug store had cherry, lime, lemon, and chocolate cokes at their fountain, and "phosphates" too!

I remember when Snickers candy bars 1st came out in our small town; around 1956 I believe, and they tasted great, but over the years they've changed the flavor a lot; not as rich and mouth-watering anymore, or as good as they were back then.

Remember Clove chewing gum, and both vanilla & choclate "Bun" candy bars, and Caravelle bars (tasted similar to today's 100 Grand bars)? Another one I haven't seen for about 2 years now is "Mars bars". Have they been discontinued too? My poor sweet tooth!:D

Ah yes the Milky Way, Three Musketeers, Snickers (named after a horse). The Mars Bar is still sold in the UK, I believe, but hasn't been sold int the US for about 6 years. My Grandparents owned a grocery so I got lots of candy growing upp. That's why I'm so sweet now. ("sweet" - translated overweight ^_^ )

Another favorite for me were "crackerjacks". Although the prizes in them were simple enough, it was always fun to see what you would get inside. Plus they tasted gooooood!!!

My parents owned a small restaurant, which is one reason I remember all of the good ole sweet stuff!

There's good news for those who want to get a few of the old candies etc. I just got a brochure in the mail from www.vermontcountrystore.com They sell BlackJack, Beeman's, and Teaberry gum, Necco candy wafers, Walnettos & Choclettos caramels, Raisin Biscuits/"Sultanas, and lots of other stuff from the past; even the orig. "Dubble Bubble Gum" (for those without dentures :yum:). You do have to buy larger quantities however! Check 'em out!

My mouth waters just reading these replies...

Speaking of: I keep searching for but can never find some store bought cookies we got when I was a kid.

They were round on top, delicious coating, and marshmellow inside on a dry cookie base. I liked the light colored ones although the dark were good too. Can't remember the name, but I have searched racks in stores and they haven't been there in years. Does anyone remember these (if you can decipher what I mean.. )or know what they were called? :yum:

All sounds good, but not them. I checked out google...no find. They live eternally (in my memory and taste buds) :D

So... does anyone remember when guys always wore belts especially those really thin ones and gals wore nylons with a seam in the back?

Hey - I even remember spats and white bucks
