  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Yes, Jay Silverheels was Canadian. He was born at Brantford, Ontario.......Why would he be French or have a French name? That puzzles me.

Cheers,

Jim

Yes, it was once New France, but the British defeated the French and the British colony of Upper Canada was established, Typical of the Brits, they gave certain rights to the French and they established their own province of Lower Canada, later to be called Quebec. They were also given language, religious and legal status.

The Indians have always maintained their own heritage and spoke their own language. The only French combo was/is the Metis; Indians married into white families, mostly French. They were primarily in the Hudson Bay area, and Manitoba.

We are officially bilingual, English-French, but there has always been tension between the two.

With the political multiculturism of to-day, we are not sure where this country is headed. At onetime, we English could come to Canada without papers, but now we are just another immigrant, and low on the list of priorities. I came in 1948, but had to take out Canadian citizenship papers in the 70's.

Cheers,

Jim

I am glad my little trivia tid bit about Jay sparked the interesting History lesson. I remember when we used to sing in assembly most days In days of yore from Britain's shore Wolfe the dauntless hero came and planted firm Britannia's flag on Canada's fair domain.... I forget the rest but I bet it doesn't happen now. lol. We also always sang God Save the Queen Jan
