How is full-time work dehumanizing. Doesn't it depend on what type of work your are do. E.g. working in a factory (dehumanizing) or farming (not dehumanizing).intricatic said:

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

IMHO; Working in an office is by far the most dehumanizing sort of fulltime job there is. I wouldn't call working in a factory dehumanizing as I've had much more enjoyable experiences in factories than I have had in offices.spinningwheelgirl said:

I think the whole problem with this situation is our society and how we are required to have a job to live. We constantly sit at desks all day doing repetivite tasks. We are so specialized to save money that there is no varity in our work or sense of accomplishment. Try to find a job which you enjoy, then it will not seem so taxing on you.

Not much time to do anything else? Sounds like school, hmmmm... And the take home work? Oh yeah, what do you think I do with my Friday evenings, eh? Go out with friends? Go out with my boyfriend? No, wait... HOMEWORK!! And at least a couple of times I have spent entire Saturdays studying without leaving my room, as well... and thought I was going to explode.
College sounds like decent preparation for fulltime work, except for learning to deal with jerks.

I don't hate it. I would like to cut down to 3-4 days a week, though. I'd have more time for MY projects, like writing that book...

The problem is, we work to live, not live to work. I only work to pay immediate things, I don't even work enough to save-- in fact, I would have to work 70 hours a week in order to save any money, but everything that I earn goes towards bills. It really sucks.

So did I, at 22. But I kept my eye out for extra responsibilities, initiatives I could start to help others and gain new skills... and the pay slowly got betterBrowneyes84 said:

Sometimes I do, most times not. It's definately better than being unemployed, and if I worked any less than full-time, I wouldn't be able to pay my bills.

This summer I will have to work full-time to over 40 hours just so I could pay for my bills, also, And I would really like to save up some money and pay off a loan.

I don't like the fact that i don't have much time at home, but apart from that, i love what i'm doing, so i enjoy my work. I work about 40 hours a week, but i also have about 2 hours 1/2 public transportations a day. This makes time for reading books, yet i wish i had a work closer.

No, from the point that I'd rather be employed than unemployed. Yes, from the point that I'd rather be doing something else (and be passionate about it) than spend my life in a job that doesn't satisy me (only financially).

when I was working fulltime (technically I was supposed to be part-time but I was most definantly fulltime ) I really didn't mind it that much.
I worked alone for the most part in the most boring store in the most boring mall in all of Canada but that meant that I had a lot of reading time, so I guess I can't really complain about that
