Would the slave have to participate in the masters affairs even if it was illegal? Probably yes. But I am not a slave, I can walk away. Perhaps that is what the Lord is leading me to do.

Then walk away; most can't when supporting a family and have no formal education.

I would not assume that. And what’s preventing you from being asked to hop on a register if somebody else calls out or has to go to the bathroom or something?

Unfortunately, I can't tell them no at this particular sale. One person is already on vacation and there is no one to replace me. I would not leave them shorthanded- that doesn't seem right either.

You have no moral obligation to these people. You can absolutely tell them no.
