  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

And although I don't condone that act, the guy punched was being hauled out of the arena by the police because of his own attempt to disrupt the meeting. I can't help but compare that with grown men running down peaceable attendees from behind and slugging them at the San Jose rally for nothing more than walking away from the place. And throwing missles and eggs at a young woman after they'd trapped her against the building! Hillary and Berne devotees may try to make some equivalency out of these different incidents, but it's impossible.

Yeah I like how one dude in a KKK uniform gets punched out and hauled out by the police gets compared to people who get bloodied, blood all over their shirts and faces, people throwing eggs, obscene and vulgar language hurled at parents (and their children!), etc. Or outright rioting like Albuquerque.

Tell me, when did Trump ever encourage riots? He made a couple jokes about punching people, but where are the jokes about rioting? I musta missed that one.

You give the illegals a choice -- go through the legal immigration system or get deported. It's just that simple. "Get legal or get out".
I think you might be mixing up his plans on illegal immigration from Mexico with his plan to ban Muslims.

The black man at the Trump rally was wearing a KKK uniform?

good point. One of these thugs is gonna run into the wrong person, like this guy I read about yesterday who is a kickboxing champ, and they will have the tables turned. I remember watching a video of a cop who was giving a demonstration. It was being video taped. Some pimp pulled up and started smacking one of his girls. The cop said something and the pimp attacked the cop (who was out of uniform). The pimp went down hard from one punch. He had to be helped back to his car because he could barely walk. The cop just stood there. I don't condone violence but honestly, that was sweet to watch and that pimp had it coming. The cop didn't attack, he just stood his ground and one hit to the side of the pimp's head and it was lights out.

From what I got of his immigration policy, it sounds like Trump wants to do the same for everybody regardless of creed, race, or religion: You enter, but only legally. If you're here illegally, you get legal or get out.

He mentioned a TEMPORARY ban on Muslims because of the jihad danger they pose, until the vetting system is ready to make sure we're not taking in radical terrorists who are posing as normal Muslims.

The thing about replacing.....that is up to the rules of each state IIRC. There is a certain time period before the election to get on the ballot, right?
I'm not sure of the particulars in this case, but unless it's almost election day, there almost always is a way to replace a former candidate. There was a situation in New Jersey a few years back when the law did not allow the Democrats to replace their Senatorial candidate, but they did it anyway and no court stopped it, so if we were talking about the Democrat Party being on the presidential ballot only with the name of Hillary under the circumstances described before...sure it would be allowed.

Better safe than sorry, right, just like with the Japanese. Treat people differently because of religion now, race then.

Aside from the fact that these two have nothing to do with each other, we DO take religion into account in dozens of legal instances. Feigned outrage over one more instance of something being done when it's being done all the time anyway just doesn't work well.

So your alternative idea is to just turn a blind eye to them and let something like San Bernardino happen again?

I am glad to see that the majority so far have voted that this will not affect their vote. I am voting -- or not voting -- for a candidate based on their platform, not based on good or bad behavior from their supporters or assumed supporters. If Trump had a platform I agree with, I'd vote for him even if every last one of his supporters were gibbering morons (though I suppose I'd have a hard time dealing with the cognitive dissonance that likely follow). Ditto Hillary or Bernie. Too many people seem to be basing or saying that they're basing their vote on whether or not they like a candidate personally (the "regular Joe" or "I'd like to have a beer with..." standard), or are willing to be associated with the type of people they assume would vote for the candidate. This does not seem like a very good reason to vote or not vote for someone. I am not voting for Trump, but not out of spite for Trump supporters. America doesn't win purely because the other guy or gal loses.

We are very immature as an electorate.

Will the violent actions taken against Trump supporters affect how you will vote for President come this November and why?

I am voting for Trump because we need a new national security policy. If someone wants to kill me for it, that is their problem.

I do wish Trump would develop a plan with the Russians to coordinate efforts to save the Christians in Syria and Iraq however.

Sure, you can call me a liar, but that's on you, not me.

Hetta, just out of curiosity are you not from the US originally? I believe you are telling the truth; I am just curious as to why you would not be aware of one of the three main news television networks (the others being Fox News and CNN).

No I am not. I am an immigrant. I have a variety of news sources which I check each day, which are the BBC, CNN, and Le Monde. My interests are not America-centric, obviously. I have seen MSNBC mentioned but because I have sources that I trust and which are linked on all laptops and computers that I use, I don't really "shop around" for news - and I would never watch/read Faux News if it was the only news source on the planet.

I am guessing you are not a Citizen yet? As that requires 12 years of residency and MSNBC is pretty...high profile.

Fox News is actually relatively moderate; they opposed Trump and have liberal and conservative commentators. I would say they are about the same as CNN, only with slightly more charismatic anchors. Anderson Cooper is kind of boring, and CNN will never be able to replace Larry King, who was the greatest interviewer ever; their attempt with Piers Morgan was sad.

I really liked Larry King Live; it was a first rate interview program, better than David Frost.

Citizenship requires 5 years of residency. I am married to an American and have been here for a considerable time. I have never seen anything sensible on Faux News. Ever. I am not much interested in interviews. I like to read the news in depth, but these talking heads don't mean much to me.
