In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Was anyone else as disappointed in Spiderman 2 as I was?

I got the feeling through the first hour of the movie that they were acting at gunpoint. To me the acting and especially the script were wholly uninspired.

I felt like Peter Parker, instead of being a smart and witty superhero, was made out to be a lame geek. I know that being a superhero is hard, but it doesn't make you trip over your own feet. Or drop your books constantly. Or have everything in the world bad happen to you. I thought they beat the point home way to hard about how crappy it is to be a superhero, to the point of absurdity.

And man, were some parts corny! What about the part where Spiderman got hurt on the train, and the people lifted him up and crowd surfed him to an opening on the train? I mean, come on!

I thought the only real redeeming part was the character and performance of Doc Oc. I thought pretty much everything about him was awesome. His part of the storyline was very cool and not corny. Sadly they barely focused on him.

What did you all think?

Are you joking? Spiderman 2 was infinitely better than the first one, and it actually had a lot of well-done parts. Don't get me wrong, there was plenty wrong with it(see: Kirsten Dunst and every time she was on screen), but I was very impressed with the acting for Peter Parker, because they actually portrayed him as a lame geek. He's a total loser! Worse than Clark Kent! Having super powers would only have an affect on one's charisma through confidence. If he's getting beat down by the double life of Spider Man and being a college student, his confidence (along with his powers) drops.

Yes, the crowd surfing part was cheesy, but when you look at it in the light of 1)the paper had pretty much made Spider Man out to be a plague on the city, 2)he had gone missing for a good while, and 3)he just stopped a speeding train after having an exhausting battle with Doc Oc(who, I agree, was very well done), they could have done a lot worse than that. Plus, having the fact that he's just a kid get out would be very positive press for Spidey.

I agree with you 100%. I read Eberts review opening day and was extremely hyped to see the movie, bearing in mind that I didn't care that much for the first one. A friend of mine and I decided to go see it that evening and see if the second one delivered where the first one didn't. I was ready to leave 35 minutes into it. The acting was half attempted it seemed in parts, the dialouge was cheesy and just down right laughable at times. Peter to Mary:"Punch me I'll bleed", what is that? Who wrote the script a 6th grader? The pacing was horrible. And what was with Kristen Dunst character? Why did she look like she was going for a 1998 Herion Sheik model look? And what was with the shot of her leaving the wedding?
What about Spidermans "Jesus Christ Pose" on the train? And he knew found ablities to lift walls? I guess I'm just a comic book purist when it comes to this, I can understand subtle changes for the movies but nothing like that. How can a movie like this be praised for bad acting, bad lines, bad pacing etc etc. and a movie like The Matrix sequels get bashed? I lost faith in the American film goers taste when Dodgeball beat out The Terminal on opening weekend a few weeks ago. I'm done ranting.

Are you utterly INSANE!!! 'Spider-Man 2' was totally awesome!! Aparently you do not read comic books. Everything about it was better than the first one. The releationships Peter had with MJ, Aunt May & Harry. Even though you knew, in the end of everything, that Peter & MJ are going to eventually get married, you still rooted for Peter to win MJ's heart.

If there was anything that disappointed me about Spidey 2, it's that I expected more Doc Ock and more action. Otherwise I enjoyed it.

Now that my expectations in those two categories have been lowered, I expect to enjoy my second viewing even more. ;)

The part where the people that Spiderman is trying to protect are lifting him up when he cannot stand, that is the best part! Man you must not be American, that would explain it.

Well anyways I think it was better than the first one, and the next several will be worth the time to see in theaters (if they keep making them, hope they do).

The moral of the story was pretty good, where the first one didn't seem to have a center. The sequal actually makes the first one better, in light of the direction it goes. If it would have went the same negative direction, both would be fit for the toiter.

Values: something we need more of in movies. When was the last time you saw a movie about suffering, and sacrifice to do whats right?

I'm still not sure what the little blue light thing did at the top of the spinal column thing. How did it break and what kind of control could it take?

i too really enjoyed this flick and all you commie pinkos out there that didn't like it, phooey on you ;) :D

seriously though, i thought the acting was decent, better than the matrix actually (but matrix was an action flick, i wasn't there for the shakespearean qualities of the actors) and the values were a sight for sore eyes. there were definitely some cheesy spots but as it's a comic book movie they were to be expected and embraced :p

i was puzzled by the 'punch me i bleed' line but i've said some dumb things before too and actually having it written into the script was kinda neat.
