In reading Proverbs 26, this verse stood out for me...it is a most precious reminder of how God Himself watches over us, and nothing that means us harm will find us and "alight" on us, when we are under His watchful care. It is saying that evil and curses and flaming arrows will "fly AWAY" from us. It's like God has put spiritual "teflon" on us hahaaaaaa

How precious is THAT?!

And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom. - 1 Kings 4:34

I find the proverbs similar to other writings of the time. Lao-Tzu, Confucius, Socrates to name a few. In which the focus is correct human conduct. I would say that, since there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, that the Greek and Chinese philosophies have their origins in the teachings of Solomon.

Greek and Chinese Philosophies... Not to refer to the strange gods of the times.

The problem with that comparison is that, in my opinion, proverbs are far above mans wisdom, and they are riddled with hidden spiritual knowledge. As the scriptures say, where is the wise? where is the philosopher of this age? Has God not made the wisdom of this world foolish? Let he who glories glory only in God. Christ is our Wisdom.

Proverbs 26:

This verse stands out for me.

It's PROFOUND.

Amen.

Proverbs 17 - 23 is all about words and their power...
17 Interfering in someone else’s argument
is as foolish as yanking a dog’s ears.

18 Just as damaging
as a madman shooting a deadly weapon
19 is someone who lies to a friend
and then says, “I was only joking.”

20 Fire goes out without wood,
and quarrels disappear when gossip stops.

21 A quarrelsome person starts fights
as easily as hot embers light charcoal or fire lights wood.

22 Rumors are dainty morsels
that sink deep into one’s heart.

23 Smooth words may hide a wicked heart,
just as a pretty glaze covers a clay pot.

20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;
And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.
21 As charcoal is to burning coals, and wood to fire,
So is a contentious man to kindle strife.
22 The words of a talebearer are like tasty trifles,
And they go down into the inmost body.

Proverbs 26:

The Tongue.

"For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:" ~1 Peter 3:10
