As a partial preterist I hold the view of an early date for John's Revelation. Perhaps 65 in the common era.
Internal evidences for this belief would include citations by John like the following:
These notations seem to indicate some important event that is at hand. I interpret that to be the destruction of Jerusalem. John seems to reserve his boldest statements regarding time for the opening and closing remarks. I find it significant that he demonstrates such an expectancy in his writing."The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place" (Rev. 1:1 NIV). "Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near" (Rev. 1:3 NIV). or "Behold, I am coming soon! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy in this book" (Rev. 22:7 NIV).
If John were writing about a literal Jerusalem some 25 years after its destruction, it would seem unusual for him to write as if the Temple were still standing as he does in 11:1."I was given a reed like a measuring rod and was told, 'Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, and count the worshipers there'" (Rev. 11:1 NIV).
It seems that Nero Caesar is the sixth king if one counts Julius Caesar. Galba, Nero's successor, was a very short-lived successor."They are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; but when he does come, he must remain for a little while" (Rev. 17:10 NIV).
So there are certainly some strong internal arguments to be made for an early date. Admittedly, such a dating can significantly influence one's theology. For instance, this dating buttresses my own convictions regarding eschatological issues, the role of miracles and signs, and the closing of the canon of scripture.
