Cross-stitchers

Hi, everyone

I really enjoy cross-stitching. I haven't done any for a long time. I like using canvases with the pic already on it and then all I have to do is buy the matching threads and away I go. I've done several big ones for other folk but never one for us. Perhaps I'll have a look in the craft shop soon.

I do cross-stitching , although I do it in bouts these days - either I'm stitching feverishly any time I can for a week or so, or I don't touch it for months!

I'm the type of person who always goes for big, complicated designs - I like Paula Vaughan, Teresa Wentzler, Lavender & Lace - those types of things.

Hi everyone!

I discovered cross stitching several years ago and now it's a favorite thing to do to unwind and let my mind kind of go still for awhile. As a writer, sometimes I need to shut down the thinking process for a bit and just relax, lol.

I'm currently working on a portrait of Christ for my bedroom, over the bed. After I finish that, by the end of the month I'm sure, I'm going to start on a bunch of Christmas ornaments to send to friends and family. Last weekend at a garage sale I got a great book with 501 smaller sized motifs and they have fifty different Santa patterns, most of which are perfect size to laminate, put on a ribbon and give as ornaments!

Anyone else already planning their Christmas stuff? lol

I have been interested in cross stitch since my grandma first gave me a needle and thread as a child and have just started a new project of a beautiful Japanese woman in a patterned kimono. In the past one of my smaller projects was a bookmark for my Bible with an image representing faith, hope and charity.

I did stamped cross stitch as a kid with my grandmother but my stitches never looked quite right. When I was in my early 20's I used to ride the bus to work every morning and usually sat next to the same lady each morning. She was doing a counted cross stitch so I just watched her for a few weeks and then went to my local craft store and bought a little kit. I've been hooked ever since -- nearly 20 years now. I love the way the fabric helps to keep your stitches uniform and some of the newer charts are so nicely shaded they almost look like paintings rather than stitchery. I enjoy seeing something come forward out of the blank space. I always have several projects going but my 2 main projects right now are a really nice representation of the creation story and a bellpull for my neighbor. The creation story one is one that I have been working on for several years and I have no idea how many hours I have into it. The bellpull is one I started just a few weeks ago -- it is from a pattern I found in a Stoney Creek magazine. They have great patterns but lots of backstitching!!

I haven't done any for awhile but usually pick something up this time of year to begin as a Christmas gift. I did a calendar of Angels that I have somewhere way back from my teen years.

Hi

I was just wondering if anyone else on here does cross-stitch?

I do needlepoint which is almost like cross-stitch,except done on plastic. I can take a cross-stitch picture and put it on plastic and it comes on real pretty.

I love to do counted cross stitch. I have done the Last Supper & also a portrait of Christ. I wish I could post the pictures. It won't let me until I have 100 posts. I made one of the Last Supper & gave it to my parents for Christmas of 2003. I sold one last year & have another done that is also for sale. I also sold the portrait of Christ & I am working on another. I have done so many I lost track of them. It is very addicting.

Cross stitching is my favourite hobby!
I taught myself 13 years ago ..

At the moment I am making bookmarks for my friends at church. There doesn`t seem to be that many christian kits out there so I bought myself a cross stitch program and have been making my own bookmarks.

I've recently started to cross stitch, I'm still on my first one actually I've enjoyed it so much so far I've already bought a couple more kits. I'm going to give a couple of them as gifts. Already I'm wanting to do more difficult projects because I think I could handle them, is there any risk in being too ambitious with skill level so soon? Are harder ones a lot easier to screw up than they look? In the future I'd like to make a banner for my church, although maybe really am getting too ambitious there, lol.
