Well, I survived the old fashioned weekend. At the craft sale the Ladies Circle sold 2 purselettes, 5 funfur boas, 2 homespun scarves, 4 chapstick keychains, and about a dozen baby caps.None of the foilies or the 2 filet pieces sold tho'
.
Under the crochet canopy I did more teaching than demonstrating. At least 3 of the 6 chairs where filled most of the afternoon, usually it was all 6. Kids would come, try it for a while, go off to do something else and then come back. I got 3 adults started (one of them a guy!
) and one wants private lessons because other people distract her when she is trying to learn something.
One cute story from the day. Little Allison (6 yrs) was working away on her chain when mom came by with 2 yr old Niccole. Niccole climbed up in a chair and picked up a swatch that had been set down by a previous student and wanted to play too. So I went behind her and put my hands over hers to "help" her make the stitches. Two short rows later she'd had enough. A little later she came by and picked up a skein of yarn and a hook, sat down and started wrapping the yarn around the hook and trying to pull it through. Her dad wanted to stop her and I said let her be. I'd rather she learn that it is ok to play with the stuff in case later on she thinks she really wants to learn (when she is a few years older). He was worried that she would ruin the yarn, but I said she's can't tangle it any worse that my cat. It only took me 5 minutes to untangle the yarn at the end of the day, but Niccole had 15 minutes of quiet fun making the tangle. Not a bad trade off in my book.
