Could Orthodox Churches Recognize The Pope?

The more I learn the more I understand just how wide the cavern is between Eastern Orthodoxy and Romanism.

I suspect a lot of Latin Catholics don't see it that way because all the theological issues that exist between the more than 20 different rites, simply get swept under the rug of communion with the pope of Rome. They are implicitly taught that the contradictions are non issues and simply aren't important.

That helps explain a little. I'm honestly mystified when Catholics are given some of the distinctions between us, and they seem to think it is as nothing, and we are just the same after all.

Just a FYI.
Another fellow who post on Catholic Answers forum has created a blog where he placed a large number of Latin Fathers on Matthew 16:18-19. He had to translate a lot of the texts himself because they are not generally quoted by Catholic apologists. When you read them, you will understand why
