  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

note ; children are a burden, and a heavy one at that.
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are sons born in one's youth.
5 Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their enemies in the gate

Fasting and prayer.

So you think that Noah fasted and prayed every day of his life so that he only had three sons?

Not written.

Also, this is what is written:

Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control

So are you saying brother, that all those who have a few children, say 2 or 3, fast and pray everyday (I mean if they don't use birth control.)

I do not know what all those do. I do know that God thought Noah was righteous.

Are you saying he did not fast and pray?

Hi, in reply to a poster who said noah had 3 children and how so.

You wrote fasting and praying.

so my question to you is, every time he did not have sex with his wife, do you think he fasted and prayed?

Also, do you think people with say only 3 children, who do not use birth control fasted and prayed and still do every day?

Ah, i missed your first part.

Want you to know, that all in Christ, and who believed in God in the OT are considered righteous by God.

NFP is fool proof if you know how to use it, horomones can mess up your body and condoms put a barrier between you and your spouse..something I certainly don't want.

This thread wasn't even about Catholics and yet they're called out on the first page..this is sad.

And of course, NFP is periodic abstinance--something also suggested in Holy Scripture so one can spend more time in prayer. (see 1 Cor. 7:5). :)

I see you missed my meaning....never mind, it does not matter anyway..he he !

Peace

Ah, I thought what you meant about the glorious day meaning to be about when we will be with God.

Until that day, I don't think things will change much, in fact they will get worse according to the bible.

When we are with God, we will be new creations and former things will pass away, we will see in full, what we now see in part.

So, I thought you were referring to when we are with God, and indeed our whole focus will be on Jesus.

Meanwhile tho, people have questions and thoughts and such, so that's why I wrote the second bit,

blessings,
tapero

The use of contraception is sinful. It is against God's commandments, and against the universal teaching of the Church through the ages.

It's use and acceptance has always led quickly to the acceptance and use of abortion, and currently is destroying Western civilization, through the popularization of extra-maritial sex, and sub-replacement level birth rates.

Have fun discussing.

Many things correlate, but we have to be careful not to confuse correlation with causation.

Contraception is not addressed in the Scriptures. Abortion as a form of contraception is clearly addressed indirectly through the prohibition on murder. Thus, any form of abortion is questionable. There are almost no exceptions to a "no abortion" policy, perhaps minus the very rare instance where it is the life of the mother or the life of the child.

As for contraception, it is not a moral evil, but is a means for modern societies to address the issue that faces them today: increased cost of children with decreased benefit-ratio. I know, children are more than money and labor, of course. However, having 6-10 kids in most urban societies is generally very difficult financially. Especially in this country that I live in, where a 6 child family would have a lot of trouble finding the room to house them all (even if they shared rooms). You would be stacking three children in a single room that is smaller than the average small American bedroom.

Contraception is the concept of purposefully avoiding the fertilization of an egg, generally by preventing the contact of sperm with egg, or by preventing female fertility. Various methods exist to do this, but the goal is always the same: prevent children. Sounds bad, at first, because children are a blessing from the Lord! But so is a wife, and so is sex, but we don't jump at these things lightly. We take time to make good decisions about our spouses (or our parents do, if we have an arranged marriage). We take time to properly prepare for marital sex (by having a wedding).

Likewise, we must properly plan for and prepare for children. Especially in industrial societies, where jobs, space, and finances often don't permit for large families, or discourage starting a family too early before saving up money.

The RCC's insistence, and apparently the EOC as well, is Scripturally without warrant aside from an obscure reference made to a man who "spilled his seed" in order to avoid producing the child that he was supposed to for his brother. There is just no evidence in the context that would suggest a generic disapproval of contraceptives; this is a hobby-horse of the RCC/EOC.

Time to get off the horse and focus on Scriptural fidelity.

I don't like the mini pill, I looked up how it works on the net and this is part of what it says:

Quote:
The lining of the uterus is also affected in a way that prevents fertilized eggs from implanting into the wall of the uterus.

To me this is still killing a baby, because my actions (taking the pill) are causing the fertilized egg (my baby) to die.

Well I just thought I would share this, I was shocked when I found out that the mini pill still allowed conception to occur.

Fasting often incorporates abstaining from maritial relations.

Not using contraception does not mean you will have a large family. I know people who only had 6, 4, 2 and 0 kids, despite not using contraception. A lot of it has to do with the natural fertility and age of the couple. In the end it is God who opens and closes the womb when we allow Him, and He always knows what is best for us, even though we may not understand or agree.

No, I realize that. But it is the Catholics that like to do what I was saying. No you didn't misunderstand my post. I agree Mary had other children and that she was a sinner..but catholics don't. well, they are saying she is by her disobeying the command to go and multiply. See what I am saying? She sinned by 'not' doing that by their own standards. I think they are totally wrong on that.
The sin is in using contraception, not in lack of children.
