I do confess to liking the fact that I do not know a lot of things. There's a kind of conform in admitting that I believe in God just because I believe in him and not because of a hole bunch of proofs convince me .... There are a lot of things that it is a comfort not to know because God hasn't revealed it.

A southern Baptist church is owned by its own body corporate so the worst the convention can do to them is kick them out if their pastor or some leader is doing naughty things (from the convention's perspective).

Yes, I know of one Southern Baptist church that was "becoming Pentecostal". My aunt has always been baptist, and she invited me to church when I was visiting her city. I was ... surprised.

I told her later that her church was "not really baptist" and she said, "Shhhhh!!!!! We are going to have to leave the denomination at the next whatever-word-she-used."

I guess they will have to change the sign over the door to independent or something else this year.

Yes, we call it Hi-Lo because it is allegedly high in flavour and low in fat. The latter is only partly true and the former is a complete lie!

I confess I buy 2% as a concession to my daughter, who would prefer 1%.

Personally, I also confess that I miss buying whole milk from a farm, or getting my own fresh (though I do not miss the chore of milking!)

I prefer 2% and heard a story last week about how bad skim milk is for you.
I grew up with 3% then 2% then a mixture of 2% and POWDERED milk!
Sometimes ONLY powdered milk.

Maybe it's just large-scale but ... there are MANY southern Baptist churches. There is the Southern Baptist Convention, who used to quarterly donate a sizable sum to a Baptist university I once worked at (it was my job to receive donations).

I thought it was overall a pretty large governmental structure?

They have leadership for the denominations (there are a few Baptist denoms) but they govern their local churches as congregationalists.
The polity has to do with how individual congregations are governed.

Roman Catholics are PAPAL in polity/government. The Orthodox are Episcopal. Anglicans probably are too, but there is such a degree of local or regional autonomy in many jurisdictions that it's been questioned whether the designation is actually correct.

The way Christians choose to be governed is a very complex thing.

Yes, those two denoms are mostly Congregational style polity so the individual congregations OWN the property but they have to adhere to denoms policy and membership. As I said before, Foursquare is pentecostal in flavor, but in polity they are Presbytery so the denom owns all the property.

Therefore, it is not what the word "Episcopal" means when we're speaking of polity, even though he himself is a bishop.

If you wanted to use another term, you probably could say "Monarchical" as MoreCoffee did, but "Papal" is what's usually said.
