CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sometimes it's just best to take a deep breath and say, "I don't think we understand each other very well." It's hard not to take it personal when your beliefs are challenged and it's hard not to seem to be making it personal when questioning the beliefs of others.Okay, you're making it very hard to be serious....and it is appreciated.

I am sorry, but I have been busy in other places, and it makes me sad to come back and see that basically there are 50 or so posts of nothing but bickering.
I am not wishing to take "sides" but Steeno, I see you doing basically the same thing in both of my current threads.
I didn't say anything before because I didn't want to interrupt if you were wishing to discuss. And particularly in the theosis thread, I saw that things were perhaps very poorly explained at first. So I tried to re-explain them, and ask you to engage with what I posted. I do value everyone's input.
But I don't see you engaging with the content of the thread. If you have something to say about DOCTRINES I would be most glad to listen. However, I am really not interested in seeing comments directed for or against individuals, and that is all I am seeing.
As a result, any comment I might have thoughtfully made is buried many posts back, likely never to be seen by the person I was addressing.
As I said, I am willing to sacrifice that for some good, but I don't see any potential good coming of what is happening.
Please, I am asking for peace.
If you wish to address ideas or doctrine, please do so. If all you have to say is something personal, perhaps it might best be handled in pm, or perhaps you might prefer to make your own thread.

And I must say I am surprised. I thought asking about RC beliefs would stir some controversy, but those threads remained relatively tame.
I am at a loss to understand why when I begin to ask questions about Orthodox theology, such as this erupts?

It might be the word, "Orthodoxy". I never knew, until coming here, that those particular religions that carry that word in their names are really just slightly realigned versions of Catholicism.And I must say I am surprised. I thought asking about RC beliefs would stir some controversy, but those threads remained relatively tame.
