But he had become a child of God.
Which means that it didn't matter that he wasn't of the "birthright of Abraham".
Timothy had a Jewish mother and grandmother; he just hadn't been circumcised as his father was a Greek. If the Jews still had a rule about not marrying non Jews, Timothy's mother disobeyed it. But Timothy still became a Christian.
You can't study a letter that Paul wrote to one church by throwing in other Scriptures that were not written to them - they may not have been written at all at that point.
I have read it. I've studied this letter carefully. Again, what does this have to do with the OP?
Let's not obfuscate the matter.
Timothy was of the nations until he came to Yahshua, plain and simple.
That's funny. If you want to go cutting books out of the Bible, I say let's cut out the middle man altogether.
Same difference.
Paul heard that one of his churches was being falsely taught that they had to be circumcised and obey the law.
This is false.
I didn't say anything at all about cutting books out of the Bible.
I said that you can't study one letter written to one church by quoting other letters/Gospels written to other people.
If you wrote a letter to someone about a business/financial matter, would you quote your great aunt Edith who had written to you with news about her cat?
Nope - read Acts 15 and then Galatians.
You've met my great aunt Edith then.If you wrote a letter to someone about a business/financial matter, would you quote your great aunt Edith who had written to you with news about her cat?
No.
Similar, in that I have been rescued, needed a Saviour and have been given his word - but not at all the same as me being Hebrew and having ancestors who were rescued from Egypt.
28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things; Are you not now a Hebrew? Have you not yet crossed over? Were the mixed multitude who entered covenant at Sinai, Hebrews before they came to YHWH?
28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well."
Paul wasn't writing to aunt Edith about her cat.
Paul was a former Pharisee who wrote about trusting Jesus and not the law.Paul was a lawyer; and generally wrote on matters of the law.
Are you not now a Hebrew?
Have you not yet crossed over?
Were the mixed multitude who entered covenant at Sinai, Hebrews before they came to YHWH?
You've met my great aunt Edith then.
Explicitly, is how. The gentile were not called upon to be circumcised or to keep the Law. End discussion.I'm not sure how this answers any of my questions.
Nope - British.
Same here, exept my dad married a Korean just to throw a spanner in the works. Still just a Yank to my mates in London, though. No Hebrew/Jewish/Israelites in the list in any case. But my ancestors are all British most English with some Scottish blood.
