Just because the founders of these movements studied under Methodists doesn't mean that I would credit Methodism as founding these movements. I studied at Calvary Chapel Bible College but I attend a Lutheran Church does that mean that Calvary Chapel founded Lutheranism?

Apples and tire irons buddy.

If Martin Luther attended a CC bible school, perhaps that link could be made.
If Chuck Smith attended a Lutheran seminary (historically more possible) a link the other way could be made.

I believe its the serving of alcohol that presents a problem. Or at least it would be for me. However, it have become very difficult to find a place, except fast food places, to find a place that does not serve hard drinks.

You can go ahead and make that link in your own mind but I'm not seeing it. It's like saying since 14 Presidents have been Freemasons then there is a Freemason conspiracy to install Presidents. I'm not making the link, I don't see it there.

...and, ironically, fast food probably does more damage than alcohol.

We know that Martin Luther not only drank beer, but that his wife Katharina von Bora was a brewer.

Going off topic a bit. Many people home brewed back then from necessity. Sanitation was almost non-existent. Water from community wells, especially in cities, was often loaded with pathogenic bacteria and parasites. Diarrheal disease was a major cause of death. If you weren't going to boil your water regularly, then you'd be safer drinking an alcoholic brew. It wasn't really until the 1850-60s, that city wells were dug deeper to avoid contamination by cesspool and gutter run-off.

And anyone who has read "The History of the World in Six Glasses" is fully aware of that. My point was that L:uther condemed only drinking to excess. There was nothing wrong with consuming alcoholic beverages in moderation in 1517, there is nothing wrong with consuming those same beverages in moderation today.

Two things gleaned from this thread about the difference between the US and here.

You guys have ALOT of Baptists. I've known one Baptist family in my entire life, and they were nuts

Also, all your restaurants appear to be licensed to sell alcohol. We don't get that here. Few places have liquor licenses, and the ones that do are either at the very top of the cuisine tree (where a bottle of wine will set you back $150), or the very bottom (where the food is at best, utilitarian. burger type places). Both places I don't go anywhere near

That's interesting! Off the top of my head, the only ones here that don't sell alcohol are fast food places and restaurants that target children/families specifically.

I can think of some places that target the breakfast and lunch time crowd that don't serve alcohol. But if they intend to draw the evening dinner crowd most do serve alcohol, unless like you said they are more specifically family/kids.

I am quite certain, a whole bunch of Christians own bars, own restaurants and even own stores, that sell cigarettes.

You're probably right about that.
The Catholic church used to have restrictions relating to that when it came to adoption. Back in 1969 one of my Catholic in-laws adopted through the Catholic orphanage, but they had to sell their liquor store first.

Why is it that Baptists are equated with "no alcohol?" That came from the Wesleyan Holiness movement.

Explain "secondary legalism."

Primary legalism is overtly claiming that one's works save them.

Secondary legalism is more subtle. It's adding extra-biblical tests of orthodoxy to the gospel. It may be expressed openly or unspoken.

Examples: You can't be a Christian and vote Republican, drink alcohol, have long hair, short hair, tattoos, be a hipster, not be a hipster. . .

At it's core, it's saying that you must hold to the gospel + (fill in the blank) in order to be saved.
