Grape juice. What did Jesus turn water into?
Growing up I heard endless sermons on how smelling alcohol was the sin of drunkenness (which made you lose salvation) and how many people were going to hell for having a bottle of Scope or Listerine; or vanilla extract in their house. My in-laws won't even eat food that has had alcohol put in it in any fashion (but extracts are okay). Bringing a rum cake to one of my husband's family gatherings back when we were first married was one of the most awkward experiences ever (nobody even tried it- and they were horrified that I would tempt the grandchildren with alcohol). My parents go to a church where people don't drink, but have extensive liquor cabinets solely for cooking purposes.
Actually it is from the Wesleyan Holiness movement of the 1800s.Teetotaling is more of a strict Baptist/Pentecostal type of belief.
Is that why Jesus turned water into wine?Due to the fact that I would be supporting something that is frowned upon. As a Christian it's frowned upon to have a couple drinks every now and then. Or even any at all.
Who buys all that Alamo beer?I see you're in Texas. I suppose you would know better than I would, but if this is true about Texan culture, it's news to me.
You mean grape juice? Is that why Jesus turned water into wine?
You mean grape juice?
Yes I know.οἶνον is in the text, it is wine.
The best wine according to the guests.
Oh, I see. You didn’t use a “smiley” so I thought you were serious.Yes I know.
I was quoting my pastor growing up. He "proved" it was actually grape juice by that statement.
"He said they saved the best for last and EVERYONE knows that grape juice is much better than that nasty old alcohol stuff."
[/sarcasm]

It's true in parts of Texas. My dad grew up in a dry county in the Texas panhandle. His dad's name was Wesley Brian. His mom blamed my mom (a Roman Catholic from Southeast Texas) for leading her son to the sin of drink.I see you're in Texas. I suppose you would know better than I would, but if this is true about Texan culture, it's news to me.
Who told you that drinking alcohol is frowned upon?Due to the fact that I would be supporting something that is frowned upon. As a Christian it's frowned upon to have a couple drinks every now and then. Or even any at all.
Based on the climate of the area and the fact that there were other parties/pass overs that He did not attend that makes no sense.Grape juice.
How does any of this stop you?Ok so what's your opinion on this. If a Christian can't own a restaurant/bar. Due to the fact that there are ppl struggling with being alcoholics ect..... Then why is it Right for a Christian to own a restaurant of ANY sort? because there are many ppl struggling with being obese....
Except this was a transmutation of water into something else. That could have been anything.Based on the climate of the area and the fact that there were other parties/pass overs that He did not attend that makes no sense.
Just something I'm struggling with because I have always wanted to own a.restaurant/bar. But is getting criticized because it's not "Christian" to sell alcohol.
Anyone and everyone in the Wesleyan Holiness camp. Not just frowned upon; a salvic issue. Drink and go to hell.Who told you that drinking alcohol is frowned upon?
