• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So, you are speaking for everyone and not just yourself!

I'm speaking for everyone who isn't a troll or someone who wants to start flamewars. I'm not the only person who has had to explain this to people like you, so I know that those people fit under "we".

I know what persecution looks like, and I haven't seen it here. You have yet to provide a single example of this supposed "hostility", and until you have, all you're doing is attacking and insulting us. So far, you are the only hostile person in this thread, and you don't need to be. I don't hate Christians and I doubt that anyone here does, so how about we have a collective cup of tea and try again?

What he perceives as `attacks`are often tongue in cheek retorts to observations and comments made.

I concur in regard to `not hating Christians,` in-fact I don't `hate` anyone.

Perhaps we need to be absolutely clear in our meaning when responding to followers of faith so that we do not inadvertently upset or entice them.

BTW, deciphering tone in the written word is one of the most difficult aspects of English comprehension.

If it helps, I will retract any comment I have made which has been deemed as offensive.

I would respectfully suggest that there is a strong correlation between the decline in church attendance in this country and the emergence of liberal Christianity...

Okay :)

Where and how?

I actually think it has more to do with religion, as a whole, being seen as not so relevant or necessary.

I would definitely agree with that, necessary to some and by Jove they have the right to walk that path, but don't insist others must too.

BTW if anyone's interested the mods have removed my link to the article on Jesus's sexuality and I have been issued with a warning.

((((MollieSue))))) How are you sis!

Ian's beaten me to it I was going to put in a request for a Christian only UK section too. My main aim with what few minutes I can grab in the day is not to debate or defend my faith but to just hang out and have a laugh. I'm not saying that I don't want to hang out with non believers - I love to bits those here that I've gotten to know over the last few months (Genersis's avatar had me in bits when I first saw it, :) ). We just need to have a balance. Life is not just about trashing the Christian faith. In contrast there's a general balance in the N&CA section where you have both believers and non believers commenting on news articles.

Like you I would also love to have fellowship with local Christians as well as Christians from around the world. It would just be nice to have some of that here. The female presence seems scarce here as well but that's another thread. :)

Good to see you!
Hi Sis:hug:
its really lovely to read your post trust you are well. I am going through some challenges at the moment, I'm no good at debating etc. I lose the plot. I just want friiends on uk forum whom I can share with and we can mutually pray for suport and encourage and thiis is why I chose to post here and I have been told by 2 members to post for encouragement elsewhere. But I am staying to talk to you.:hug: and am praying we can cultivate a place of encouragement here.

I want to reply to clarify that I did not say this, at all. I merely pointed to other areas of the forum that you might feel more comfortable in. I hope that wherever you decide to post, you get the fellowship and encouragement that you want.

Why don't you use some smilies in your posts, helps to communicate your tone!

I would have assumed that the erudite contributors in here would be capable of deciphering tone without the need for little cute pictures?

It depends. People tend to use English on internet forums in a similar manner to the way that they talk; it's a conversation, so it's natural to do. Unfortunately, tone of voice does not translate well into text, so the voice you hear reading out what you're saying as you type it is not necessarily the voice other people will hear.
