• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Have any other Christians on CF (UK and Ireland section) detected a change in the approach and attitudes of some non-Christian contributors on these threads? It seems to me that an otherwise hidden agenda is no longer hidden, and a much more hostile approach against Christians, and the foundational truths that we hold to is being adopted.

A line from 'Hill Street Blues' comes to mind, "Let's be careful out there!".

Why is it that the phrase "hidden agenda" has been thrown around a LOT by Christians in the last 40 years and always pertains to some conspiricy theory centred around gays/atheists/liberals/new world order/"evolutionists"/pro-choicers/anyone or anything Christians tend to be against.

Think you could fill me in on this new hidden agenda you have discovered?

All i've seen change is a small increase in more inflamatory posts. Even then, that's been more down to subject than purposeful flaming.

I welcome other opinions, and i sincerely doubt there is some giant conspiracy to bring down our faith.

I concur with you Miser. There may be some`acerbic` exchanges however as I pointed out to Savedbygrace in another thread, I may not agree with your religion/views but I would defend with my life your right to embrace it.

Perhaps there has been an epiphany amidst contributors of the `Christian` persuasion?

You know that most of the forum is Christian-only, right? I'm sure there are plenty of places you will feel more comfortable posting. Perhaps in the Congregation or Edification sections? This is a big forum, so there's no need to hang around somewhere that makes you feel uncomfortable.

As for the OP, I have a strong suspicion that we have another example of something confusing discussion/debate with hostility. Please understand that disagreeing with you does not mean that we hate you. There are real, terrible cases of Christian persecution in the world - it's an insult to those people suffering if we pretend that disagreeing on an internet forum is an example. I hope that no one here has misinterpreted anything I've said as hostile, there was no hostility intended.

Persecution comes in many different disguises, please do not highlight extremes of persecution and suffering in order to justify other more subtle types, that is an insult!!

Rather than clutter up the other thread you made SBG; What is this agenda you speak of?

Over recent weeks I have noted a definate antogonism by some non-Christians on these threads, so much so that I have decided to no longer engage with one individual.

It's moi, he has already informed me of this. Perhaps he feels threatened by debate.

Hardly sets the heather on fire, so no biggie imo.

No newly discovered agenda then? Just offence?
Thanks for clearing that up.

If I might voice my opinion on this subject, my observations are as follows:

I don't have a massive problems with any of the atheist/ humanist's who post regularly in the UK & Ireland site. I think I could enjoy a pint with most of you (if you're buying?)

My only comment would be that quite often I take the time to explain an aspect of Christianity to them in order to correct a misunderstanding and my post seemingly goes unread.
This is evidenced when the same/ or related conversation comes up, and you get a repeat of the same misunderstanding.

Furthermore, it should be remembered that this is a Christian forum and I am a Christian. If I or any other Christian takes the time to honestly and truthfully explain something related to our faith, and this is done in good faith, then it should be read and dealt with respectfully.

But my real problem is actually with liberal 'Christians'. I'm not going to go in to too much detail, but the most damage that is being done to true, Bible based Christianity is being done from inside the church, through people subtly distorting and changing our faith.
I have got a massive problem with Christians who deny, change and amend true Bible and God centred Christianity.

Arguing on an internet forum is not persecution of any kind. I know that you, as a Christian, are told to expect hatred and persecution, but please don't insult the non-Christians here by claiming that we're purposefully attacking you. We're not, and I doubt many of us appreciate such vilification. Has it occurred to you that your accusations are attacks on us?

Perhaps then Ian (with respect) you should get your own house in order before you criticise `us` atheists. Aspects of your religion are frequently misconstrued by followers of faith in this forum.

If you are all singing from the same hymn sheet -so to speak- there would be no room for confusion.
