This seems somewhat comforting, though it's very difficult to see how the OP will translate into practicality.

I do think that it is good not to think of CF as a megaphone for those who would defend their particular version of Christianity, but as a meeting place for all who meet under the person of Jesus, to share their experiences and doctrines, even if they contradict, and for all who do not believe, to interact with believers.

I am still concerned at the US focus of the staff and the Conservative Christian focus as well. People on this board both live in countries other than the US and may just happen to be moderate or liberal Christians.

I think as far as Cons. focus, you might want to be more specific?
Staff's focus on Cons.? Or the conservative focus altogether?

I'm not exactly sure what you'de like Americans to do in order
to appease your concern about members who live elsewhere?
Noone is 'shut out' or cannot post about going's-on in their
countries -
in fact we love to hear that information, I know I do and have
asked about the issues & politics and even word meanings.

i dont know that the internet will ever replace the face to face interaction, and i dont see CF as a replacement for church. i understand, of course, if there are special circumstances...but by in large...i believe in real life church.
Well I definitely think the internet has a weighty role in religion
in general. God can use it to further His own kingdom (just as
alternatively, it is often used against His own kingdom)....

I'm glad you don't view CF as a replacement for church.
 With technology as it is today, there are PLENTY of
wonderful churches & Pastors/Theologians that broadcast
online where they can participate in being spiritually fed
by a qualified teacher.
Any online religious forum can be dangerous where teachings are
concerned due to the lack of qualification of many members to
teach and give faulty information etc.
(lots could be said there, but I'm pretty sure you get the gist)
=)

thanks for the reply :)

And that is why people must be discerning. The world, certainly, is not so balanced as what you might hold as your ideal.

Well people are not discerning unfortunately - in fact,
as per scripture teaching, deception abounds the later it gets
in the timetable before Christ's return.

Many verses teach that and we're seeing it like never before.
Even still, each one preaching a false message is held
accountable:
James 3:1
Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren,
knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment.

I've never thought of CF as a Fort Knox or museum for 'right' teaching, where people may pass by and observe beliefs behind a laser-protected wall of glass.

This is nothing I"m going to debate since this is no debate
thread.

Forums are not 'churches' - but they provide people with some
spiritual benefits (while also allowing pitfalls at the same time
depending on definition of Christianity and content being allowed
by members).

I dont' think this should continue due to the OP's purpose,
so I'll discontinue after this post.

If you encounter what you consider to be a false belief that is destructive in the forums, by all means argue against it. If, however, you find yourself unable to craft a reasonable argument against that belief, then let it stand. Perhaps your inability to craft that argument should be taken as a reason to inquire further into that belief.

I know I've learned a great deal while here at CF, and have had my beliefs tested throughout. In some cases, I've found better reasons for the beliefs that I hold, and in other cases, I've found good reasons to abandon some beliefs I hold.

I value this aspect of CF greatly.

however, let's say CF was a ford mustang forum. if someone really loved chevy camaros, and started to say how camaros were better than ford and fords suck and constantly caused trouble with other members, they are not here to be friends nor are they here to find out more about ford mustangs...hence they would no longer be welcome on the boards. i think you all get the picture.

Anyone who uses automotive analogies gets all thumbs up in my book!!!

BTW...Camaros (and GTO's) are waaaay better than Mustangs...just lettin you all know!!

Well since we can't go into each belief/doctrine, I can say that I'm very
familiar with what gets floated on these boards and I don't value
MANY of them whatsoever.
Just becuz some good can come out of negative/bad, doesn't
make me inclined to embrace the bad becuz alot of bad
comes from that as well.

Thankfully as scripture tells us, God WILL keep those who are
genuinely His - so the false teachings & heresies will not
pull away a true child of God. They will however pull away
the others.
The blind stay blind, the seeing spot the lies, the hearing
hear truth and discern falsity.

It's in the parable of the sower
BibleGateway.com - PassageLookup: Matt 13:18-30;;

And in Jesus' parables:
13Therefore speak I to them in parables:
because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not,
neither do they understand.
14And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith,
By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand;
and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive

2 Peter 3:15-16
just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you,
16as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things,
in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught
and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures,
to their own destruction.

But as Jesus warned:
Matthew 18:7
"Woe to the world because of its stumbling blocks!
For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come;
but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes!

Wow! I just now noticed this announcement today......First time I have seen a whole Board on CF closed like this and this would also appear to be relevant to the topic here.......

http://www.christianforums.com/f80/

http://www.christianforums.com/t7389579/

Dear friends in Christ;

Due to the recent increase in the number, and the nature, of reported violations and posts in Soteriology, staff has deemed it prudent to temporarily close this forum for no longer than two weeks for an extensive cleanup.

While this is being done, we, as staff, also urge all of you, our valued members, to take some time to consider how and why we post.

Since how we post reflects on us as Christians, and is a witness to our personal faith in our Lord; it is important that we remember to always post in a spirit of Charity, Christian love, and concern for the Spiritual edification of all here at Christian Forums.

This time will give us all an opportunity to prayerfully self evaluate our role as Christians:
May our Lord, through the power of the Holy Spirit, increase in us true knowledge of Him and of His will and true obedience to His word, to the end that by His grace we may come to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Amen.

Makes sense..It seemed to be focusing on Calvinism rather than Salvation in general....It started turning into a inquisition forum against Calvinists but at the same time it seemed more like a one-sided forum (being mostly made of up calvinists)

Hi PT!
Sounds like a good board to discuss Catholicism on then, as a lot of Catholic threads on the GT board have been closed for much the same reason when discussing Catholicism and or their Pope.

May put that in as a suggestion :)
