  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The priest is not there to block us from God, but quite the opposite, to lead us to Him.
 I would like to add something, about this with the priest "blocking" or "leading" - and about the confessing in little boxes...
I come from a protestantic church and converted this Easter. I´ve never felt more close to God. When confessing in the "box" I feel that I´m speaking directly to Jesus - and my priest helps me to do this. I can feel him praying in his heart for me, and listening to God for advice, to give to me. We do it together. My confessor helps me...

And to those guests at OBOB that might come from a more Pentecostal tradition, I want to say: I pray more in toungs, and sing, after receiving Jesus in the Holy Communion! It´s not "either" - "or"... Indeed, He is there - it is Him!

Let me ask you this... who assembled the Bible?

Beats me. I am new at this and have only Matthew 1-12 thus far.

EDIT: Is what the pope says "law"? I don't get the whole pope thing. Heck, I get little of Catholic stuff.

It depends on what you mean.
I'm not sure what I mean... Catholics are quite confusing to me. xP And I've done a significant amount of research.

EDIT: It has authority because it is God' Word... so I accept it as that and as authoritive.

Why do you think that The Bible has any authority to begin with? Why do you accept it as "God's Word"?

If I may...We believe that the writers of all 66 books in the Bible were inspired by God.

Why? Could you please provide chapter and verse of each book where it says it is infallible and inspired wholly and entire by God? Or better yet, could you provide chapter and verse where it names all of the books by name?

So do we. The problem with giving sole authority to the scriptures is that someone had to decide what was and was not scripture. That was done by the Church. Most Christians agree on (most of) the Canon, but many discount the body that discussed the inspiration (or lack thereof) of the texts, and ultimately compiled them.

This only means that we reject anything practiced that is not found in scripture.

I use the KJV and trust the scholarship behind it.

So.... is there a whole bunch of Bible scriptures that can confirm which is best, Protestant or Catholic.

Quoting The Bible is useless until you give a sound reason to give any authority to it first. So, why do you consider The Bible to be authoritative, that is, God's word?
