• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Did you check for Alzheimer's?

What happened to you sounds similar to what happened to me. I've been diagnosed with ADHD. I am 100% sure I have OCD and I was somewhat manically depressed. I also found that I found out I was living my life with perfectionistic attitudes and habits. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helped a lot with the depression, OCD and perfectionism. You might want to check out the Feeling Good Handbook by David Burns if you are struggling with perfectionism. Also, I first started getting back my memory when I tried Photoreading. It worked for me but not for my dad.

I know that when you find yourself to not remember, even the sentence you just read may be hard to recall so I will make the following sentences shorter.
My savior was knowing [I wanted instant recall after demand], [In reality, memory did not work this way], [I had to start dealing with anxiety & stress], [Ideally, relax physical body, calm your attitude and mind], [Try meditation; it is worth it to have your life back], [Start memorizing and recalling to improve faith in your memory].

I know this is an old thread but I am having the same problem. My memory is horrible. It seems to have gotten worse too. I forget even the smallest things. Ex. I would tell my husband something then less than 5-15 minutes later and not even remember that I told him already. Its driving me up the wall. I hate that i forget so much because I have 3 kids that are in school and bring home important paperwork that I even forget to hand in on time. :( I want my memory back.

I used to have very bad memory problems. I wouldn't remember the day, or the week day, nor birthdays. I often found myself checking to see if I locked the door multiple times, looking for something that I was already holding and things of that nature.

I started taking Piracetam, my grandmother got it for me when I started attending college again, and after about two weeks of taking the product I noticed a significant increase in my memory and cognitive functions.

A little about Piracetam (these are all research links, taken from clinical/medical studies):

Neurobiol Aging. 1981 Summer;2(2):105-11.
Profound effects of combining choline and piracetam on memory enhancement and cholinergic function in aged rats.

Acta Physiol Pharmacol Bulg. 1990;16(1):25-31.
Effects of citicholine and of the combination citicholine + piracetam on the memory (experiments on mice).
Mosharrof AH, Petkov VD.

Neurotransmitters, natural supplements, herbs, vitamins that increase levels by Ray Sahelian, M.D.

smartdrugsforthought.com (They sell the product, but they have a research page that lists a lot of the benefits found.)

You can also google, and wiki Piracetam. I can't post any links unfortunately and I'm sorry for that.

Maybe this can help you like it's helped me! I take it every day and it's made studying and college so much easier. I can actually retain information now, and remember WHEN and WHERE my classes are!

Friend,
Is there something traumatic that happened in your life that you are trying to repress? I had depression, autism, PTSD, and high anxiety in high school that led to repressing my memories to survive. I have since had memory problems, and can't remember anything. I live in such a state of repression that I don't really remember what I did last week. Most of my childhood/teen years (I'm 28, close in age to you also) I do not remember.

Also, being autistic, I only remember details around me when I am in a coffee shop. What people look like, threats around me (PTSD related), and I can't remember what we talked about.

Do you remember emotions from places? Like if you go to a place (school, restaurant, etc.) that you were at, can you remember your emotions from it? Like you were happy that day, you had a good lunch with a friend, etc.?

I don't want to imply that you have PTSD or anything like that. I was just curious.

I can't remember anything either. ADHD can play a huge role, too. I have CRCS too. ;)

I have Developmental Disability and Autism. It has affected my memory before too.

What I do is I try harder. Push myself harder. Sometimes it works. I may take longer to read a book, or I'll go over and read the same thing several times until it's a part of my memory. :)
