CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The coordination would usually point to a sophisticated attack, aka AQ and such. The low quality of the bombs and sloppiness of the attack point towards less experienced/prepared people though, such as a fringe domestic group (or even single individual).

The London marathon happens this coming Sunday and authorities there are on alert and taking precautions in light of this event in Boston.

Gitmo has a lot of issues. I'm not sure where I stand on it really.
As for the bombs, these are easy to make. I made quite a few when I was a kid and had great success just using common chemicals found in people's sheds. Another one of my friends made a fertilizer bomb (DO NOT DO THIS, the explosion is much larger then you think it would be and he nearly burned a field down). Never used shrapnel, as we were just aiming for fun, and it would have murdered ourselves, but I can imagine the impact.

No, because obviously leaving Guantanamo open doesn't actually stop this from happening.
In fact, it may encourage it. Roadside bombs are common in the countries that we have waged war in for the last ten years, where we have killed countless innocents and civilians in the process, destroyed national infrastructure, and even tortured war prisoners... all reasons for a lot of people not to like us and to think that hurting us when we are at our most vulnerable is a good idea.
For what it's worth, I hope that the people who made and set these bombs die slowly and painfully while being eaten alive by necrotic bacteria, hopefully starting with their genitals. I don't condone what they've done. But that doesn't make the wrong we have done--and are still doing--right.

Boston Police report they do not have a suspect in custody. So far the only source which reports a suspect in custody is nypost.com

Bomb-sniffing dogs are routine at such a huge event as is training and prepping for various problems. The aluminum hat crowd will be all over this disaster to milk as much of the opportunity as they can.

When I was looking at websites carrying this story it seemed everyone was pretty quick to blame someone.
While I can understand the psychological need to try and make sense of what seems to be a very senseless act, I don't understand how some people can be so quick to jump to very specific conspiracy theories.
