Fact check: Decision to postpone Operation Talon was made by ICE and not Biden administration, DHS says

The biggest "cause"?
There are "push" and "pull" factors that people to choose to immigrate. Do you HONESTLY think that some 6 year old Guatemalan is SOOOOOO enamoured with Biden that they will FINALLY choose to risk death to immigrate to the US?
Or is it possible that the lack of safety in Guatemala is, maybe, a bigger cause.
President Trump turned them back, Joe let's them in. President Trump eliminated the cages put in by Obama/Biden administration, Joe puts the cages back with a new name. I understand they want to make this a one party country, but Joe is causing great harm to many people.

Thank you, I appreciate your help.

What I'm getting from this is that there wasn't any written deal that Biden canceled. Trump threatened Mexico with tariffs in order to get them to comply.
It appears that Biden hasn't threatened Mexico with tariffs. Is that correct?
Maybe he should? What is your opinion?
So, the Mexican government should not enforce their border laws nor respect ours? Just let them continue to allow the corruption in their own country?

Being the son of a legal immigrant and a “little brown man”. I find your dismissing of my request to advance your political position as dismissing and rude.

is my race only valid to you when it matches your political stance? Is that the only time you show a modicum of decency and respect for a race other than your own?

I will ask you a second time to stop.

I'm wondering what should be considered more offensive: being upset at someone whose family immigrated here "legally" trying to make it tougher for people who look like them to come here when they need help, or my getting upset with you because you don't seem to see migrants as people?

A bit of self-reflection here would be good.

I agree. I wonder what kind of person ignores the request to stop using offensive and stereotypical racist jargon?

evidently I am not seen as enough of a person to consider a request to stop.

I have not been. You are projecting to take the heat off the fact that I was greeted in this thread with claims of migrants practicing in child trafficking. If you don't want to be seen as discriminating against people - not to mention people who look like you - then don't engage in lazy, broad brush generalizations of people who cross our border for various reasons.

It's clear you want to drive a political narrative based on misleading statements.

You'd think that people who were so sure that migrants were "bringing crime" and were dirty child traffickers would at least have the courage of their convictions to defend these broad-brush generalizations. Yet every single one of them in this thread have come up with some excuse to stop engaging with people who call them on the carpet for their discriminatory views.

I guess they'd rather focus on the really important issues of our day, like Dr. Seuss books.

Look, we're in a crisis situation, in two weeks the number of migrant children in custody TRIPLED according to information obtained by the New York Times. Children are being held in those cages, or barred cells, you may call them welcome centers, but the administration is holding kids beyond the three day limit required by law.

I agree with you that it's a mess, thanks to Biden's uncaring (that's putting it mildly) predecessor. I don't think he's going as far as he should to end the barbaric practices at our (imaginary) southern border. But I also tend not to believe the sudden concern for migrant children now that the mess is in the hands of a Democratic president.

I agree. The Biden Administration needs to act urgently to address the situation. The numbers of unaccompanied children entering the US has increased tremendously - a trend that started in January. I expect the increase is attributed to false expectations for those who have been waiting on the Mexico side for a new administration. NPR recently reported:

"There are some 25,000 migrants scattered up and down the border between Matamoros and Tijuana. Many have been waiting well over a year to press their asylum cases in the U.S."
....
"The Border Patrol is now arresting more than 1,200 unauthorized migrants a day in the Rio Grande Valley, the nation's illegal crossing hotspot. That's a sharp jump over recent months."

The article goes on to note this account from a pastor in the trenches:

Pastor Hector Silva runs a migrant shelter in Reynosa. He's been watching immigration cycles here since he opened his doors 26 years ago.

HECTOR SILVA: (Through interpreter) The numbers are growing. The border is getting more and more jammed up with people who were either fooled into coming here or misunderstood the new American government.

BURNETT: His new guests are people like Dilicia Mejia, who believed the new White House was flinging open the gates. She and her 16-year-old daughter, Jorlene, fled Honduras last year to Monterrey, Mexico, where she's been cleaning houses. A couple weeks ago, with Biden in charge, they hopped a bus to Reynosa, where they're waiting for an opportunity to cross.

DILICIA MEJIA: (Speaking Spanish).

BURNETT: "This is the faith we have before God," she says, kissing her fingers and raising them heavenward. "We know that Joe Biden is a good person who has made a good government."

More illegal immigrants mean more Democrat votes, that's what this is about. The vaccines were ready and they could not even wait another six months. It shows a lack of compassion and a lack of morality. Look at Chicago, Democrat run, the kids don't have much of a chance. Walter Williams just died, he wrote about the problems and the solutions for children. Please anyone out there take the time to read just one of his columns.

OK, several things:

Number one, I wonder why it could be that immigrants who come here and find themselves treated like people and not cattle tend to vote Democratic. Could it be that the Democrats show them the human, Christian compassion that is so lacking from the GOP?

Number two, why should it scare me if there are more voters and taxpayers in this country, regardless of who they vote for and why? The only obvious answer must be that you're just scared of people who don't look like you.

Number three, if part of the entire opposition (the part that isn't performative) to "illegal" immigration is worrying that it hurts the GOP electorally, then that isn't the Democrats' problem - it's the GOP's. If they want to be viable politically in future elections, then stop the scapegoating of "scary" immigrants and trying to get fewer people to vote and present ideas that people actually like.

I'm sure voting in the American election is a priority for the Guatemalan parent whose daughter is being threatened with her life. <sarcasm> "This" isn't about how the GOP or any party's ideological line. It's about people trying to survive. Any one of us would do the same if we were in their circumstance.

The administration polices are the cause of the surge. Here's an analogy. Democrats will give taxpayer stimulus money to felons that could have better been used toward stopping hunger and disease. I see the problem as being those who support giving him the money, the Boston bomber and other felons get three square meals a day and medical care from the government. You might explain away the actions by considering the root causes of the bomber's crime.

How is this substantially different from the previous COVID-related bills that passed under President Trump?

There was just an amendment proposed in the Senate to stop this from happening. Let's check who voted to support the felons and who did not. Felons are largely going to vote Democrat.

Seems to me that convicted felons don't lose their citizenship just because they're in prison.

Sorry, I don't follow your analogy at all. And you have yet to site a specific Biden policy that is the "cause of the surge."
