  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Biggest loser on CF.....

Never use wikipedia, ever. It's the number one rule when making informative discussions fun, you can refer to wikipedia but always use the references they link to in order to insure the information shown is 100% kosher.

Got Pus? Campaign debuts in Minneapolis - Vegan Represent

Excessive pus in cow's milk can be traced to a condition called mastitis, which is caused in cows by the stressful and abusive nature of factory farming, unsanitary conditions, the strain on cows' bodies that results from genetic manipulation, and the prolific use of synthetic hormones on American farms. Both listeria, a potentially brain-wasting type of bacteria that can survive pasteurization, and paratuberculosis bacteria, which have been linked to the excruciating effects of Crohn's disease, have been found in pus-infected milk. According to Professor John Herman Taylor of St. George's Hospital Medical School in London, England, "[t]he problems caused by the [paratuberculosis] bug are a public health tragedy."

"Tormented, sick animals and a mouthful of pus make the dairy industry's case for drinking milk pretty hard to swallow," says PETA vegan outreach coordinator William Rivas-Rivas.
This is much more of a problem for the American market than the British one, there's no doubt that a lot of intensive dairy farms in the good old USA do have issues with pus and what not, but in Britain the problem is not nearly so prolific. It is an issue, yes an infection will produce pus and what not, but the simple fact is you can make decisions to purchase milk that does not have these same issues associated with it owing to the farmer not having such an intensive milking business. When I do use milk my preference is for unprocessed milk from rare breed dairy farms, because that is my preference. The fact I know these cows live outside in all but the harshest of weather and are in pretty good nick makes it all the better.

Of course i'm biased, my experience makes me biased and wary of sensationalist "PUS IN MILK, PUS IN MILK" headlines. It happens, usually through poor stock management, cleaning regimes and in farms where they heavily rely on pasturisation to make it palatable.

Anyroad...

I'll crawl back under my rock now :)

Here it goes!

I've had some issues with living in a healthy manner. I do well in school, lead my peers in student ministry, and am becoming a member in my church this Sunday. However, I find that my living habits are not conductive to success. I feel tired a lot...because I like to resist sleep. I struggle with energy levels because I've been inactive and this compounds with some endocrine issues. I can't remember times in which I actually WANTED water more than today and yesterday. I am ready for change and I've taken the first steps.
I'm no longer addicted to cola but I still crave coffee and other sources of caffeine at least once daily. I do like coffee and find that it's something I don't see myself giving up entirely...but I'd like it to become a treat rather than a need. I don't plan my meals so I waste calories AND money on "quick" food that doesn't satisfy or nourish. Did I mention I'm so bored?! and so boring?! I've been afraid to go to the rec center at the uni because I'm so intimidated, but I feel like if I get fit, I'll feel like doing more and I'll enjoy sports and games with friends instead of feeling like "I can't" and like they won't want me. I don't want to become a statistic. I love my personality, but if I'm too lazy or tired to go out, no one's going to get to love it with me. I've got a lot of work to do.
I made the first step. I'm going to the rec center Wednesday morning and will explore the equipment and facility with a friend who knows it, then work out with her.
I'm really excited...
but nervous too.
Here I go!!

I've found myself going through some of the same things, deepgreen. I am so proud of you for taking the 1st steps. I am also to a point where I am just tired of talking and ready to start doing.

Thankfully :) I did check my weight this week and am down 6 lbs from the last time I weighed myself. I am officially then at 24 lbs down since I started my weight loss over a year ago lol

But at least I am maintaining/not gaining. I have set a mini goal of 5 pounds this month. I am hopeful that at least for me, slow and steady will work.

I don't know. Every time I've ran in the winter in the cold, my lungs always get sore and it almost hurts to breathe. I never have that problem in the summer. I think because when your breathing while you run your taking in too much cold air into your lungs during the winter and the winter air can damage your lungs if you take too much of it in.

Although Rocky IV Is an awesome movie. My favorite one out of the series. :)

By eating higher quality food over the past three weeks, I've managed to lose about 5 lbs. My goal is to lose 5 more.

My current workout includes pushups, situps, and the use of a rowing machine. I'll start jogging again when the weather improves.
