  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Biggest loser on CF.....

Way to go, Tinkabink! Every pound lost is 4 pounds of pressure off your knees :ok:

I started walking a mile a day about 2 weeks ago. But with summer coming, something's going to have to change, because I can't handle walking when it's 100 degrees outside with 100% humidity. I can swim on the weekends at the lake (yippee!), but I've been trying to think of what I can do indoors on weeknights. Treadmills are too expensive, big, loud, and heavy. So I started looking at exercise bikes. Unfortunately, all the affordable models are uprights, with those painfully tiny, hard seats. Then I just happened to spot a semi-recumbent model that was a really good price. I checked the reviews and the vast majority were raving about how comfortable and quiet it was. So I just put in an order for one...I'll get it tomorrow. Wish me luck!! Swimming and walking outside are still my two top choices, but when it's just too darn hot (or cold when winter comes), I can hop on this thing and crank away while watching TV :ok:

Hi guys. I am the biggest loser here. :D

I used to take a meal supplement called 'ultimate meal' when I had money and when I was rowing. I always seemed to lose weight when I took it. I never looked into it much cause I was using it to give me energy. But when I had problems with my diet I supplemented it with that. :D

I got my exercise bike! Josh and I put it together, and he was really, really helpful! I hopped on and did 2.5 miles in no time - it was great! We spent about 3 hours in the lake today, so I'm exhausted, no more bike till tomorrow.

I did well today with my food intake. Ate healthy all day and went or a 45+ minute walk. My knee is swollen and my back is swollen pretty well. I actually stepped in a major hole I didn't see and rolled my ankle on the walk, lol but it wasn't bad and I was fine after a few minutes.

I am taking an Olympic Lifting coaching certification course this weekend.

Thanks! Good job!

Awesome!!! Praise God. I know you can do this. WE can do this!

He's pretty spectacular!!! :D We can!

I've lost another 5 pounds! That makes the total 35 pounds. I still have a long way to go though.

But praise God for making it this far!

Congrats! God is good!

Congrats Keri and Tink. I gained 4 lbs, but am ready to get back on track- I blame the good BBQ food lol

Seriously, I'm ready to get back on track and work towards losing 10 more by end of July.

Thank you, Lady!

Sweetheart, that Josh! Good job!

Swam in the lake twice on Saturday for about 3 hours total, and once yesterday for about an hour. Also did my exercise bike lastnight, but can't tell you the distance cause I'm still trying to figure out the controls lol.

No significant weight loss yet, though :sigh: I hate my metabolism. I can exercise till I collapse, and not eat anymore than any other person, and still won't lose weight. I have to eat like a bird to lose anything, no matter how much I exercise...and I know the exercise is good for me in other ways (blood pressure, stress, cholesterol, etc), but it's so frustrating.

Do you count calories? Exercising has helped me, but most of my weight loss has been due to counting calories. I was eating reasonable portions, but that didn't help because unfortunately those portions had a lot of calories. I started reading labels and tracking what I ate. I was really surprised how many calories some things have. Once I cut down to about 1200-1500* calories a day, the weight started (finally) coming off. I haven't lost all of the weight I need to, but I don't have that much further to go.

I highly recommend sparkpeople to anyone/everyone, which is free, or a site like it. It's great for counting calories (and they have a list of many foods with the labels, so you may not even need to know the calories yourself or you can input a label and save it for future use), tracking water intake-which is also very important, and other stuff. You can log workouts on there too.

I'm not trying to come off as some kind of expert, but I have lost a significant amount of weight and would love to help others in any way that I can.

*the number will depend on your height, weight, weight goal, etc. Sparkpeople helped me come up with that number.

Counting calories is too much work for me...yeah, I'm just too lazy to do it. The idea of having to sit down and do math every single time I eat a meal sounds too much like torture to me, lol. I envy the mathematically-minded. And a lot of what I eat doesn't come from pre-packaged stuff from home. Like, I usually get a bagel with cream cheese on my way to work, for breakfast. For lunch, I usually get a salad or sandwich from a deli that's nearby. Can't really count the calories for those, I just try to keep it healthy and avoid snacks/desserts with my meals.

Believe me, math is not my friend, so I completely understand. You can count calories from things that are not pre-packaged (which is too expensive for me to live off of). It's hard to describe, but online you can find sites that tell you the calories of something (like one large banana) or sparkpeople may have it in their database-which is done by the company and people like me.

Bagel shops, delis, and other places often post calories on their websites. And there are sites like calorieking.com

I do completely understand, though, not wanting to deal with calorie counting.
