Job 39-40

God is question Job. Basically he was asking "Who are you to question me? Or to call my ways into question" He then proceeds to ask him questions that Job has no way of answering because man has no answer for them. How can clay talk back to the potter?

"And the LORD said to Job:“Shall a faultfinder contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.” Then Job answered the LORD and said: “Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth. I have spoken once, and I will not answer; twice, but I will proceed no further.” (Job 40:1-5 ESV)

Sometimes I think one of the purposes for Job's suffering was to show us that people do not always suffer because of some horrible sin they have committed. When people suffer others are quick to judge. They often say things like "they must have done something to deserve this." Even Job's friends spoke this way when in reality Job's suffering had nothing to do with a hidden sin or bad decision. God allowed Job to be tested and to suffer. In this instance we know why (to some extent) God allowed Job to go through suffering but the book never says that the Lord revealed that to Job. Suffering can be caused by sin and bad decisions but that is not always the case and we need to keep that in mind.

Not to mention that despite everything, I believe it is revealed by the end of the book that God blessed Job with even more in the end than what he had before the disaster.:)

Far be it for me to claim to know the mind of God, but my guess would be that one of the lessons we can take away from this is that God intends good for us ultimately according to His will, however for a time it may seem like He is against us or just doesn't care because of the terrible things that are happening in our lives now. So we should not blame God or accuse Him of having it out for us or betraying us. Instead, we are to trust and keep the faith that whatever happens in the end, God knows best.

Well Jesus suffered more than any of us and of course he was sinless. But it was the devil afflicting him and hating him BECAUSE he was righteous.
What we learn from Job is that nobody is immune from suffering, even the most righteous amongst us. But thankfully he passed the test.

It is the patience of Job to endure these trials that is most admirable. Jobs comforters are little solace, they all ask why this is happening. Job doesnt know why. Its not wrong to look at ourselves and examine whether we are in the faith. If we think we are TOO good to ever suffer, that we his favourites and nothing will ever try us, what does that say about our relationship with God. It is like the favourite child with his toys suddenly taken all away? Does the child only love the parent because of the toys? Or does he love his parents regardless of what happens, and has faith that even though the toys are gone, his parents still love him.

Reading over the gospels again this year as of now Luke has become my favorite so far. I just really like the way it has been written so far, with Luke basically spending the first two chapters writing with this - at least as I perceive it - sense of awe and wonder at the glory and mercy of God in sending His Son to us. It almost sounds like some epic fantasy movie's introduction sequence where a great prophecy heralding some sort of salvation for all the people in the world is being unfolded here, which of course, for us humans in the real world, it is.:)

Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word, it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus; so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught.

I especially like the part where Mary visits Elizabeth after being told the news that she would give birth to the Messiah, and immediately the child who would become John the Baptist reacts with joy from within Elizabeth's womb =>
Now at this time Mary arose and went in a hurry to the hill country, to a city of Judah, and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. And she cried out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is
the fruit of your womb! And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me? For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.”

I like that Luke emphaises Jesus healing miracles and power over demons. Also he gives lots of details about family life.

Our tithes and offerings should be given with a cheerful heart. We should emulate the Corinthians in that we should give to those who are in need not neglecting those who are in the church.

We should be careful not to boast but if we do it should be in the Lord.

I know, right? Guess it took the Israelites just that much time to get from Egypt to the land promised to them, and there was A LOT of history that happened along the way to document. =P
