Exodus - I remember when young thinking christians didn't swear, but then one of my christian friends talked about [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]tim wood. So, it's ok. It just has another meaning in Hebrew I guess.

I find and have found over the years a lot of comfort in the Psalms.

I think we can all related to David's turmoil and pain at different points of our lives. Yet, David had a habit, even when he despaired, of bringing to mind the faithfulness, power, love, etc of God. It is good to see that when David was in peril or when life was difficult that he not only cried out to God but that he had confidence that the Lord heard him and would act. That to me has always been beautiful not only that God hears the cries of his people but that he also acts. We all, as Christians, should have that same confidence.

See how there can be such need in adversity, and calling on Yahweh God is important then, this will have the help most possible.

Psalm 54
Save me, God, by your name. Vindicate me in your might.
Hear my prayer, God. Listen to the words of my mouth.
For strangers have risen up against me. Violent men have sought after my soul. They haven't set God before them.
Behold, God is my helper. Yahweh is the one who sustains my soul.
He will repay the evil to my enemies. Destroy them in your truth.
With a free will offering, I will sacrifice to you. I will give thanks to your name, Yahweh, for it is good.
For he has delivered me out of all trouble. My eye has seen triumph over my enemies.

Recognizing the help from Yahweh God is needed in that, and in this we should submit to God willingly, our living sacrifice of ourselves in obedience to God's will.

We're getting close to the end of Job, as God Himself has now come to the scene to respond to Job's and his friends' commentary on the distress and calamity that has befallen Job.

So today we have Job 39 and 40.

By the way, sorry, everyone. Yesterday I totally had the wrong reading posted. 54 through 56 was last week's. This week should have been Psalms 57 through 59.

The creatures mentioned in these passages seem to not correspond to any creatures known to be around now, though some guess that they do mean certain ones of such, but the most significant message in these passages is for recognizing that Yahweh God is beyond us and we cannot judge what God is doing, but just accept what is shown for us from what God reveals, still with us trusting God.

We see in Job 40:

Yahweh answered Job, "Shall he who argues contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it."

Then Job answered Yahweh, "Behold, I am of small account. What shall I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth.
I have spoken once, and I will not answer; Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further."

Then Yahweh answered Job out of the whirlwind, "Now brace yourself like a man. I will question you, and you will answer me.
Will you even annul my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be justified?
Or do you have an arm like God? Can you thunder with a voice like him?
"Now deck yourself with excellency and dignity. Array yourself with honor and majesty.
Pour out the fury of your anger. Look at everyone who is proud, and bring him low.
Look at everyone who is proud, and humble him. Crush the wicked in their place.
Hide them in the dust together. Bind their faces in the hidden place.
Then I will also admit to you that your own right hand can save you."

I think names for animals have changed, like unicorn, just means 'one horned beast' so could apply to rhino. Also we dont have a 'behemoth' which just meant 'large beast' but it does sound kind of like an elephant or could be an alligator.
I found the whole description of Gods creatures fascinating, it kind of reminded me, I must visit the zoo again.

Job 39-40

God is question Job. Basically he was asking "Who are you to question me? Or to call my ways into question" He then proceeds to ask him questions that Job has no way of answering because man has no answer for them. How can clay talk back to the potter?

"And the LORD said to Job:“Shall a faultfinder contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.” Then Job answered the LORD and said: “Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth. I have spoken once, and I will not answer; twice, but I will proceed no further.” (Job 40:1-5 ESV)

Sometimes I think one of the purposes for Job's suffering was to show us that people do not always suffer because of some horrible sin they have committed. When people suffer others are quick to judge. They often say things like "they must have done something to deserve this." Even Job's friends spoke this way when in reality Job's suffering had nothing to do with a hidden sin or bad decision. God allowed Job to be tested and to suffer. In this instance we know why (to some extent) God allowed Job to go through suffering but the book never says that the Lord revealed that to Job. Suffering can be caused by sin and bad decisions but that is not always the case and we need to keep that in mind.

What I find the most interesting in the story is that God actually accepts Jobs blame. (although it happens later, in chapter 42, sorry for spoilers! ;))

42:7: "Jehovah had spoken these words unto Job, Jehovah said to Eliphaz the Temanite, .....for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath."

God says Job was right, and Job was the one speaking least "godly" of the group, basically just whining about how unfair God is for the most of the book.

I see the ending of Job in a way that it's about having respect for mysteries of life and God. There is not always simple way of knowing why everything happens - as God lectures Job for couple of chapters - because some things that shape our lives, happen in the invisible side of reality.
