Job 39-40
God is question Job. Basically he was asking "Who are you to question me? Or to call my ways into question" He then proceeds to ask him questions that Job has no way of answering because man has no answer for them. How can clay talk back to the potter?
"And the LORD said to Job:“Shall a faultfinder contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.” Then Job answered the LORD and said: “Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth. I have spoken once, and I will not answer; twice, but I will proceed no further.” (Job 40:1-5 ESV)
Sometimes I think one of the purposes for Job's suffering was to show us that people do not always suffer because of some horrible sin they have committed. When people suffer others are quick to judge. They often say things like "they must have done something to deserve this." Even Job's friends spoke this way when in reality Job's suffering had nothing to do with a hidden sin or bad decision. God allowed Job to be tested and to suffer. In this instance we know why (to some extent) God allowed Job to go through suffering but the book never says that the Lord revealed that to Job. Suffering can be caused by sin and bad decisions but that is not always the case and we need to keep that in mind.
Not to mention that despite everything, I believe it is revealed by the end of the book that God blessed Job with even more in the end than what he had before the disaster.
Far be it for me to claim to know the mind of God, but my guess would be that one of the lessons we can take away from this is that God intends good for us ultimately according to His will, however for a time it may seem like He is against us or just doesn't care because of the terrible things that are happening in our lives now. So we should not blame God or accuse Him of having it out for us or betraying us. Instead, we are to trust and keep the faith that whatever happens in the end, God knows best.
