Reading exodus.

Ten plagues, but only when God struck the FIRSTBORN did the pharoah relent.

I think because the firstborn is the most precious to parents. I dont know, notice God didnt strike the second born! Also you could lose all your crops to hail, be smitten with boils, have rivers turn to blood and frogs stinking out the place, locusts eat everything, but nothing could compare to losing your child.

Bump. At end of 1 Samuel, Saul gets his comeuppance.
The Lord wasn't listening to him because of his disobedience, so he did turn to a witch. But the thing about Samuel was he sounded mighty annoyed that Saul was contacting him from the dead.

But the thing about Samuel was he sounded mighty annoyed that Saul was contacting him from the dead.

Personally, I don't think it was Samuel. I think it was a demonic apparition pretending to be Samuel, which is why the witch was genuinely startled when he appeared. Of course, it could also be true that it really was Samuel and thus the witch was surprised to see him because she was a charlatan and knew it, thus she never expected to truly see a dead person appear when she did her necromancing/summoning thingy.

But really, I adhere to the former thought because I honestly don't see why God would allow Samuel to return in any way, form, or fashion when I could swear that God forbade His people from participating in such antics as trying to contact deceased souls in the first place, which is exactly what Saul should NOT have been doing.

I am not sure what to think. Because samuel was telling saul what the Lord was saying was in store for him. If it was a demonic apparition, it might not have mentioned the Lord.

Also remember Jesus was with elijah and moses when he was transfigured and they had been dead for centuries.

Im not sure how familiar spirits really work, but God doesnt want ppl contacting the dead because we not meant to divine the future, or go outside of Him. I think that as souls go to Him when they pass they wouldnt WANT to go back to earth. Remember Jesus telling the story of lazarus and the rich man, how there was a divide that they couldnt cross over, and even if someone came back from the dead, many people wouldnt believe, because they didnt believe Moses.

I think it is possible to contact the dead, but obviously we not meant to, people that do that, like spiritualists, then just spend all their time doing so and become useless for anybody else. Who wants to talk to dead people all the time?!

what was Paul talking about when he mentions the beasts at Ephesus? What kind of beasts?

I never had a clue, really. But I would say he must have intended "fought the wild beasts at Ephesus" as a figure of speech for something else. Maybe a spiritual battle of some sort?

Tuesday: History

2 Samuel 1 through 4

_______________

I really enjoyed reading through the books of Samuel so far. I don't know; I guess it's just exciting to see all of the workings and blessings from God shaping the history of Israel's kingship and destinies therein.

Eli's blessing upon Hannah that God grant her her steadfast desire to have a child, that child growing up to be a great leader and man of integrity Samuel, Samuel setting out to discover Saul as the king that the Israelites requested, Saul's rise to honor and eventual, unfortunate fall into jealousy and disobedience, David's arising to take his place as a king who would do better by his nation than Saul (although he still had the integrity and sense of forgiveness to honor Saul as God's anointed, and so led the people of Israel and Judah by example such that they too remembered Saul well despite his falling into grave error), and so into the rest of 2 Samuel which we will eventually get to, into more epicness and Game of Thrones-like drama. ^_^

But I think we can all be refreshed on a certain wisdom from reading Samuel (much like many others books of history in the Bible) in general, and that is that it is always best to trust God. He is the only God in all of the world, and He knows best for all, but in particular the people He chose to directly lead in the Old Testament, the Israelites. Even when you feel He might be leading some to disaster and downfall (like with Saul, whom I dare venture to believe was still loved by God despite his mistakes and God eventually abandoning His direct guidance over Saul as king and transferring His blessing to David after him), He has a purpose, and it will ultimately prove good.

Some questions. Mount zion. Is the same as mount moriah or is it different? The temple mount...is that zion?

Whoso offereth praise. Glorifieth me..
And to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.

So...how exactly does one ordereth his conversation aright? I love the king james version.
