Wow, lots of prophecies here with different nations. Isaiah 12 was about praise, a nice introduction to the coming destruction! :p I'm totally kidding here. Don't hate me...

But really, that's some heavenly righteousness to weed out evil in said nations.

Friday: Prophecy

This morning we will be continuing in Isaiah with chapters 12 through 17.
Isaiah 17:7 to me seems referring to Paul the apostle on the road to Damascus.

Its wonderful how these ancient prophecies all came to pass through Jesus on the Lords day. And that we can celebrate the Lords day every week, and every day for that matter when we enter into our rest.

Glad to know you are still here, @LadyOfMystery .

I really feel impacted by the last verse in Isaiah 12:
Cry aloud and shout for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, For great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.

I don't know; I guess it's simply because this verse is another great choice of words for magnifying Christ and heralding Him for the great salvation He will bring as King of kings.

@Goodbook, you seem to know a bit about the Hebrew language. Do you see any significance in this verse from Isaiah 14:
9“ Sheol from beneath is excited over you to meet you when you come; It arouses for you the aspirits of the dead, all the bleaders of the earth; It raises all the kings of the nations from their thrones. [aOr shades (Heb Repha’im) bLit male goats]

I am just curious as to what it could mean to call them "shades" (from Hebrew "Repha'im") here in verse 9. My guess is that the prophecy is saying that before all of Babylon they will see visions of the dead (not actual dead people walking around as ghosts) from Sheol to remind them of their coming destruction, for they will soon be there at the grave as well. But perhaps the term "shades" means something different than what I am thinking. Any insight, Miss Book or anyone else?

In any event, I guess one general lesson we can take away from all this reading today, or even the book of Isaiah as a whole, is that sometimes it takes bitter medicine of radical destruction and reconstruction to ultimately bring about the goodness of salvation and eternal life and harmony that God has planned for us. Hence why all the prophecies of unpleasant things like desolation and destruction throughout Isaiah with relatively few interludes of praise and glory to God given among them.

Well, that verse is a bit different in KJV

9 Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

I don't know where you get all that extra thing from or why your version is translated that way.

Basically it means that Babylon will be brought down to hell. Hell is underneath the earth, like a pit. It will fall. I'm not seeing where any kids or goats are in that verse...?

Well, the term goats could have been a reference to other verses that indicate those against God as "goats", such as the one everyone knows, Matthew 25:33. And if God is prophesying destruction to the leaders in Babylon just as those leaders/chiefs/kings from other nations who were against God and were destroyed, couldn't goats be just as appropriate a term?

I dont think its taken away any words as its a word for word translation. your version is confusing. What version is it?

The NASB. Perhaps it seems confusing to you, but I wanted to try reading a different version rather than the KJV or NIV like I have all my life before this. I am not of the mind right now that any translation of the Bible is better than the other to the point of it being a threat to "genuine" salvation or anything like that like I have heard extremists for certain versions imply sometimes.

So I'm being adventurous. ^_^

The best sermon ever.

Some things ...Jesus talks a lot of things being cast out. I often think that in my life for example there are things I need to cast out that do not belong in Gods Kingdom.

i am still working on that temple housekeeping.
