What understanding does she not yet have? She knows that she sins?

new thread started today "what is the definition of sin"

knowing that adults struggle with "what is and what isn't sin" from some threads that I have read since joining CF, think this is something that a 10 yr old might also not fully comprehend

I know as a child, after making first confession and going to confession, often struggled to think of something to tell the Priest
(so often had my little list of sins in my head that convinced myself I probably did in order to have something to say in the confessional; this was when I was younger than my child is now)

Exactly so. But no church refuses them baptism because of it. We are not expected to be theologians before receiving the sacrament of baptism--or any other sacrament, for that matter.

Sin is an archer's term that means literally "to miss the mark." In practical terms if we break one of God's commandments, we sin.

sorry if this is a repeat; unable to do searches for some reason today

baby dedication at age 2 when we adopted her

she is now 10 and have been thinking about baptism lately
husband and I were both baptised as infants

should we should wait until our child expresses interest in being baptised with other adults?
or look into having her baptised with infants now?

I'd wait for her to express interest. If she's been dedicated to the Lord, I can't see any harm in following the path of least resistance/confusion/complexity. You might ask what she wants. It may be an opportunity for her to express the interest she has already had.

Baptism is a public declaration of faith.

Baptism does not do anything for you. You are not more holy, because you got baptized. You are not more "saved" because you got baptized. Baptism doesn't do anything for you, the first, last, or any time.

Baptism, is you making your faith public.

That's all. You don't need to be baptized more than once, I agree. Jesus only said we are to be baptized.

But if you got baptized, and lived like a hellion, your public declaration of faith was destroyed by how you lived.

If you turn back to the Lord, you may wish to be baptized again, to show publicly your faith is real.
I know people who have done exactly that.
Baptism is a public declaration..but more..it is an open door to a relationship to God..otherwise Jesus would have said "repent and believe..for you are saved". Baptism is neccessary..as an attempt to make yourself clean..next would be repent..clean your soul as well as your body.
If you assume to call yourself a follower of Christ without being obedient to His words..there must be a flaw in what Jesus has said. Please show me the flaw

Do you get to be there for that? I don't really know a lot about how these camps work.

we got a call today

they called all parents of teens who decided to be baptized
so parents can go early enough to witness baptisms before camp is over

And Christ said unless a man is born of water and Spirit, he can't access the Kingdom

How Old Was Jesus When He Was Baptized?

"Jesus tells John why He must be baptized and it has nothing to do with sin but just the opposite; it is “to fulfill all righteousness” meaning Jesus fulfilled every requirement of the law perfectly and gave us an example that all believers should obey but also all believers should be baptized upon profession of faith."

note above ^
"all believers should be baptized upon profession of faith"

John 3:5, 'I am telling you the truth' replied Jesus, 'No one can enter the Kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit'. Since the guilt of original sin begins at conception(Ps.51:5), it seems better to baptise infants. God bless

our child was already 27 months old at adoption
no longer a baby

is it really "better" to baptize infants who can't speak for themselves?
at least our teen is making her OWN decision to be baptized!

I posted this thread 4 yrs ago & the majority of posters did not say infant baptism was "better"

Baptism is God's means of adopting us as His children. There is nothing in Scripture that prohibits infants from being baptized, and so Christians have always baptized infants because God commits His promises to us in baptism, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation".

If Baptism is God's work, then there is no wrong age to be baptized at, because God's promises and grace are irrevocable.

If Baptism is our work, then it's just getting wet and doesn't mean anything anyway.

What does Scripture say about Baptism? See John 3:5, Romans 6:3-4, Colossians 2:12-13, Galatians 3:27, 1 Peter 3:21, Acts of the Apostles 2:38, Titus 3:5, and Ephesians 5:26.

yes, I agree

reading that "infant baptism is better" certainly puts me as the parent on the defensive

I'm happy teen has made the choice to be Baptized
it makes the Baptism much more special & memorable since the choice was hers
