Attorney General Jeff Sessions has ordered the Justice Department to dig into allegations in a POLITICO report that a series of potential drug prosecutions related to the pro-Iranian militant group Hezbollah were abandoned as the Obama administration pressed to strike a deal with Iran over its nuclear program.​

My question, exactly what are they investigating? Haven't we learned under Trump, that the President is in charge of law enforcement and, if he gives orders to law enforcement, those orders are automatically legal since he is the boss?

On a more serious note, while it is great for a soundbite to make Democrats look bad, I'm not sure what an investigation is going to do. From the description, so far, it doesn't sound as if any laws were broken by the Obama administration to accomplish this. Am I missing something? What is the purpose of the investigation, what do they hope to accomplish, outside of embarrassing Obama and the Democrats?

So what is the end game for this investigation? Will they impeach Obama now? It is completely different for an administration to appoint a special counsel to see if the President, or his campaign staff, might have broken US law prior to the election compared to investigating a past president for doing things that are morally questionable (but not illegal, per se) in trying to further his foreign policy agenda.

With the Special Prosecutor, we've seen a couple of indictments (with hints they were not charged for all crimes in return for their cooperation) and, if nothing else, it could clear the President of the claims that he broke the law. What result will the investigation into Obama's dealings with the Iranians do for the country?

Guess what, the Justice Department is part of the Executive Branch. While there may be second guessing the decision, this is in the President's prerogative. Like firing Comey. But it does look better if it's in the best interests of the nation, as opposed to covering one's own butt.
