Interesting... I was doing all the things one was supposed to do, catechism, confirmation, etc., anticipating the time when it would all slot into place, but it never happened, it just became more absurd (although I liked the drama and pageantry of the full-scale Latin mass). Most of my friends didn't believe, and I remember wondering how many pupils and teachers were pretending to believe just to fit in... When I got to university and met people of many religious backgrounds from around the world who'd had the same experience, then it all slotted into place!

OK, then you were a bit different than I. You (as I see) were trying to make sense of the religion/faith and it didn't quite fit, while I was just accepting it on trust (of others) and didn't care to spend time contemplating it.

This does sound like another category.

Preferably a Rosary, or St. Christopher medal, or a nice statue of the Virgin Mary. At least that's what my people had...
In my schooldays I was once given a little glow-in-the-dark statue of the Virgin Mary to put on the bedside table - a bit spooky...

Let's face it.

If Jesus had never existed, would it be AD 2020 right now?
If enough people believed. If days of the week and months of the year are lingering reminders of ancient fictional deities, why not the calendar itself? Particularly in times where powerful individuals could decree such changes.

I wasn't really trying very hard - they said it would come, so I waited... but it didn't ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's not that I was a sceptic either, for quite a while I was hoping that things like telekinesis were possible...

What does that mean? "If" he was lifted up? Who is doing the lifting?

Are you talking about His ascension into Heaven? Cause in that case it would be Himself.

Sorry, but all that proves is that Jesus existed historically. It takes faith to believe that He is who He said He was which is the Son of God. (Which I have a lot more faith to believe that then I do with the fact that you and I come from monkeys. Even though I doubt my faith in God sometimes,.. I could never have enough faith to be an atheist besides the fact that I love Jesus. :) )

Evolution and the Genesis account are mutually exclusive. Do not be deceived. One can not believe in both.

What makes you get that idea? Doesn't the big bang suggest that after God spoke the universe into being that it could have caused a loud bang? @JohnDB has a saying that after God spoke the universe into being bang there it was. :D

No one's asking you to be or trying to convince you to give up Jesus.

But...

Atheism doesn't require faith. It is better described as a lack of the kind of faith we've been talking about.

EVOLUTION ... theory is mutually exclusive ....

We have no idea whether there was a "big bang" noise when God created everything .... that's just a witty response to the term used by people of faith in response to scientists "big bang" statement.

What we do know God created everything fully formed ... and they reproduce after their kind.

I watched as far as the first time the guy said "I don't have enough faith to be an atheist" and then gave up. There's no point in watching preachers who offer such statements.

You know, please don't take this the wrong way or anything but even though I'm a Christian myself, it really annoys me when other Christians pretend like they know everything. Christians aren't God and so they shouldn't pretend to be. Again, I apologize for being so blunt, as I like you and everything but because Christians act like such Hermione Grangers (Know-it-alls) is why we get such a bad reputation.

I am making no claims about this--I am asking believers why I should think any of this is real?

Well then why don't you put two and two together on what I said?

Forgive me for answering your question with a question,.. but I'm just curious how unbelievers make it through life without the grace of God.

Is it not true we do not know there was a big bang noise?
